All my bikes are in a big, secure shed about 30m from the house. As of today it has been alarmed with a basic Yale (no app) system which is properly loud.

I'd like to back that up with a simple camera solution. I have strong wifi in the shed. Ideal solution would be one on the house looking towards the shed (and covering the cars) and one on the shed interior. Obviously needs to be infra-read as well.

I'm not bothered if it's google, amazon or whatever compatible. Options seem to be Blink, Nest and Ring. I don't need lights because we already have PIR operated floods. I would like an app so I get a notification.

Blink seemed to be the cheapest which meets the requirements!

Recommendations welcome!

Rather than a package system, I bought cameras and a digital video recorder from use-ip.co.uk/
The DVR connected to my home network and the cameras connected to the DVR using PoE. One camera was out of wifi range so I bought a powerline connector with PoE supply. I based my design on the guides on their site, then posted my thoughts on their forum for advice and got a few good improvements. Look at the resolution, and choose the focal loength of your lens to get the optimum arc of coverage compared to size of a person on the image at the distance that matters, ie, if you want get a good image of somebody 30m away you'll need a relatively long lens. Do you have power at the shed?

Thanks for that. I'll take a look. Yes we have power in the shed. I am also thinking about mounting the external camera on the shed not the house. This would make identifying someone heading for the shed far easier.

Have been using Arlos for a while and despite concerns on battery life they have been excellent and dissuded some scrotes from breaking in when they saw them.

Blink isn't without it's faults, but the motion detection, night vision, phone notifications and talk function all seem to work well.

I've got one in my garden office, one in the garden and one on the front door

I've got two Blink cameras and one of the new ones on beta test, very happy with it. You can expect a couple of false alarms while you fine tune the sensitivity and motion detection zones, but in general it's spot on. Notifications of movement come through within a second or two and you can shout abuse (or confuse your neighbours) using the built-in speaker.

Was sufficient to identify someone who tried to get into the garage last year and the "recording" LED is bright and obvious enough to be a deterrent.

Downside is you don't get 24-hour recording, if that's what you want.

Thanks all. Will check out the other recommendations ^^

Not bothered about 24 hour at all. It's 50% deterrent, 50% identification if they do get in.
