Heading over to the IOW with my 9 year old son with bikes at half term to see relatives for 2 nights. Taking the car will cost £75 minus any discount I can get from vouchers (15% I think).

Looking at parking the car and going as foot passengers with bikes, only £25 all in.

Anyone know any safe, cheap/free parking for 2 nights while we're over there? Would need to ride our bikes to the ferry so would prefer not to have to cycle on the motorway, for obvious reasons.

No where immediately jumps to mind. If you leave it in any of the parks car parks you risk a break in. Parking in a suburb will require a taxi or long walk. Thought about arriving by train? Believe there is even a free bus down to the terminal. Otherwise i would just pay the extra tbh.

Can park on my driveway if you want, I'm away at the moment. It would be a 10-15 minute cycle to the ferry carrying your luggage. House is at Witts Hill.

Theres an NCP just up from the ferry terminal or the parking for West Quay, although Im not sure if thats 24hrs+?
Only 10 mins walk to ferry from there.
Spare a thought for us poor IOW'ers who have to pay similar to get off the island!

There's long stay parking at "The Triangle" about 250 metres East of the Red Funnel Terminal, sorry don't know costs. You'll need to be on the car ferry as they dont take bikes on the Red Jet.

train it to Portsmouth and get picked up the other side.

all the parking in the centre of soton is expensive. I have to go there for work and family. it sucks.

You've some great offers above, but I always park at Lymington and take the Yarmouth ferry. Prices not hugely different but ample parking, main issue is the horror of passing through Lyndhurst at any time.

Yes, that occurred to me after I got tickets for the festival and started looking at the cost of taking my car across! 😯
Eeeeeeek!
Fortunately I have family in Porchester so I can park on their drive and they'll drive me down to the hover.
I hadn't realised it was so expensive taking a car over, it would have almost doubled my ticket price.
