Going to the Isle of Wight for a few days cycle touring.

First night is planned to stay at the Kite hill campsite near Ryde but after that stuck for a campsite, somewhere west of Cowes would be ideal.

Any suggestions most appreciated.

Orchards is top notch. My favourite site on the island. Small enough but has loads of facilities. Otherwise, Heathfield Farm on the far side of Freshwater near Colwell Bay.

Grange Farm on the Military Road is nice, overlooking the sea. For something basic, but all the better for it, this is a good.

Second Grange Farm. Defiantly would not recommend wild camping on the Tennyson Trail overlooking Brighstone, that would be very naughty....

We used to stay at kite hill, once pitched in the middle as everyone was round the edge. Middle of night hooli started blowing and we were right in the middle.

Used to leave our stuff there so did not have to carry it round the island.

Look up the sailing club at Wootton bridge I m sure visitors can eat in there v reasonably.

We've looked at a few sites before on the south coast, off the Military Road. Trouble is, if the weather is wrong its going to be fairly exposed. There is one though, Compton Farm just a bit further on from the Compton Bay car park. Its still basically on the coast but its nestled in a little valley so a lot less exposed to the elements.

Oh, and theres another, Stoats Farm. Very, very basic (the facilities when we went were crap) but opposite a decent pub and a short walk up onto Tennyson Down etc. If you're passing, pop into the Piano cafe in Freshwater Bay as well. I never want to leave that place...
