So just getting a website together, how easy is bootstrap, eh? happy days there.

Anyhow, I need a couple of bits of info.

1. Where's the best place to buy a domain name/email addresses?

2. Where's the best place to buy hosting for a simple website? (Might get a bit more complex down the road, see below.)

Next question gets a bit more complex and is less immediate, but it's something I want to stick together, but don't really want some kinda convoluted shopping cart system.

3a. How do you make user login areas on a site, and would that be easy enough? Don't suppose there's some kinda easy framework you can plug in for such a thing and just tweak bits, with out knowing too much?

3b. Is there's a plug in system/ framework that if a user clicks an image, I'll take them through to a very simple ordering system (with some customisable option). That will then email a couple of places, with an attached file(That'll I'll have previously asssigned to the specific image).

Q. 1 & 2, I guess will be easy enough to answer, I have googled, just want to know who people trust and use there.

Q3. I guess i'm asking for the moon on a stick there, and I'm going to have to bit the bullet and learn some php and database type combo and learn about web security and stuff like that? fingers crossed someone knows something though! 😆 It's just an idea that anyhow, a longer term thing. Might well just be best eventually speaking to a developer about getting the simple functionality I want done, down the road..

Anyhow, cheers for any comments and suggestions.

For 3 you'd be better describing what you need rather than how you think it should be solved.

For 1 & 2 I have used 1 & 1 Internet for years. You can have hosting for about £5/mth, they will register your domain name, you can set up email addresses through the control panel.

For 3, rather than try to learn php and databases, might be a lot easier to use a content management system like WordPress. Thousands of plugins to do virtually anything you might want. There is a shop plugin which, I think, is fairly comprehensive, probably more than you describe, but there is also probably something simpler. I have used WP but not for a shopping site. It would also help with security and SEO.

Don't do that. Well, do that - it'll be interesting and fun but you probably won't make something properly secure.

Ye tbh, if I learned something it'd take away from what I want to do at the moment, so don't really want to go there at moment anyhow I think, was really just a thought, i've got loads running through my mind the now, trick is here to discard the unimportant things.

I guess some kinda wordpress thing might be worth looking into at somepoint. It's down the road though, right now, I just need a basic info site, to get info up there, develop existing skills and then decide what I want to develop as a longer term plan. so really Q1 and 2 is what I really need for this. ill have a wee look at 1 & 1 cheers.

Question on the security of a basic site? You know, basic info site with contact page. Do you need to do anything special to secure such a thing?

WordPress isn't difficult and can scale up to e-commerce pretty well. Loads of plug-ins and developers and web pages out there to help you too.

If you can Google you can build a WordPress site

Yes.  Most importantly you need to not trust anything that comes from the client and sanitise all such inputs.  For example, if you use the input that your user gives you as part of a database query, you need to make sure that it's properly escaped or people will be able to destroy or steal data from your database.

Likewise, if you include any part of the input in a dynamically generated web page, you need to make sure it is escaped or you're at risk of cross-site scriptng (XSS) attacks.

At a bare minimum, don't write anything unless you understand who Little Bobby Tables is.

As for where to get a domain name and hosting I'd always recommend Mythic Beasts, but that's not exactly an independent opinion.
