Isn't it more like going for an interview at the vegetarian society, the day after having a Big Mac? And then the vegetarians suspecting you've had a Big Mac, and testing you for Big Macs, then them finding you had too much Big Mac left In your system. And then banning you from driving

I'm sure when i originally read the story it mentioned an afternoon interview.

In honesty though if he "shared a bottle of wine with his wife the night before" and still wasn't fit to drive the next morning it's (a) bolocks, (b) a huge bottle of [s]wine[/s] vodka or (c) bloody unlucky/medically concerning not to have metabolized it out.

So really it's like still having ketchup smeared round your mouth but telling them it was from yesterday

Obviously not the sharpest tool in the box. Any drink-driving scrote worth their salt would have claimed they had stuck away four cans of Tennants after parking the car.

I'm going with functioning alcoholic. 1/2 a bottle of wine the night before is a crap rouse.

I've read more crap detective fiction than I care to mention and can't believe Rebus et al were ever sober. It's just like that in reality right?

Surely if he's half a brain he should have given the hip-flask defence?

Not condoning drink driving, but the guy is an idiot several times over!

Well, it was an IT manager role, so quite possibly.

Knowing the levels of corruption in the policefolk I know, he was probably deemed to have too much regard for the law.

If he'd had an ounce of common sense, he'd have said he'd popped into a pub for a quick half just to try to relax and calm his nerves before the interview.
Which is what I'd have probably done myself!

The blood test would prove otherwise.

Can they tell when & how much from the blood test?

He'd only have to be the difference between 3 pints on waking up or 2 pints an hour or two later just before the interview.

Either way, functioning alcoholic and drink driving so hope his punishment prompts a turnarround in his life and not just slipping into just non-functional alcoholism.

It goes down obviously overtime they do more than one breath test a blood test would show if it was still in your blood too which gives a rough idea. The "I've just had a lunchtime pint" isn't a new excuse.

Shared a bottle with his wife maybe true, it was the other two he drank by himself that caused the issue.
