Are there any interesting buildings etc that can be hired out for a day/evening within Huddersfield/surrounding area/over the tops? Nowhere that specialises in wedding venues- I'm not really into that sort of thing.. 🙂
Have a look at the local council website for buildings they have.
Doing a similar thing at the moment but in Barnsley - Elsecar Heritage, Cannon Hall etc are available to hire so I'm sure there will be some similar up that way.

Would you need a drinks licence or stick to bring a bottle?

one of my friends runs Northorpe Hall at Mirfield if that's any good to you. It's mainly a wedding venue IIRC but they do other functions too

That's a bit naive and restrictive 'cos anywhere nice will not limit their renting to non-wedding events. Find a location, tell them it's for a party, don't say the "wedding" word, see how it goes.
