I have been asked to look into some sort of Intercom system for a elderly gentleman who is nearly blind.
Requirements are, audio only, wireless set up and connection, ideally as a two way walkie talkie type set up so he can have something to hand for when the doorbell/intercom ring.
Budget, anything really as its more important that it does the job required, reliably.
Any suitable kits out there?
I think you can do this with a couple of Amazon smart devices like an echo. Once set up you just speak to it and ask it to talk to the other device
Echo's can do this, but you need to know which device to connect to. Need a better description from the OP about what's needed really. Otherwise, Ring doorbell?
As a description, he basically needs something like ring but without video.
He would like a device (audio only) attached at the door so that when someone pushes the button it rings through to the second device which will be on his person, so that he can then push a button and talk to the person at the door and vice versa.
I think the best way to describe what he needs is a two way walkie talkie system in some form of a doorbell.
I have suggested echo devices etc, he doesn't want it.
Ring / Echo is great (it's what I have) but it's dependent on Wi-Fi and an Internet connection. It was my first thought also, but I don't think it's the right solution in this case.
What -is- the right solution, I don't know.
