just bought a renault trafic, fully windowed, not a panel van,
used to be a wheelchair motability, so has 2 slimline seats in the back .
rego search brings it up as a VAN, so cannot insure it under car insurance policies,
so, insured it under Admiral Van,
just spoke to them saying the V5 had been changed when the dealer sold it to us, from DISABLED to Private light goods, and she mentioned the seating in the back would be non manufacturer and said immediately "we dont insure modified vans, the policy will be cancelled"
tried a few other "van" insurers and they wont insure non manufacturer modified seating either
so how do i get this thing insured...and then in the future, how do i put in a rear seat/bed system and still keep it insured!
.......heeeeelp!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: ok seems googling " T4 day van insurance " gives lots of options.........
go to a broker ?
They tend to know more about odd types of insurance needs
Insure it as a converted camper van
yep, we have this problem on our T5 work van. It was a panel van but has side windows and 2nd row seating added so it is essentially a kombi but not a factory version. Non of the big names would insure it citing the modifications. We are insured through the NFU but the premium is absurd at £720. Best cheapest was around 600 with an unknown so we have stayed with the NFU.
We probably should have just sold it and sourced a factory version - it would have probably been cheaper over the years we've had it 🙄

Try Adrian Flux. Use them for my modded day van which is still registered as a van. Good cover, cheap and helpful to speak to.
Brentacre sorted me out for my old van too. It was unmodified barring a door window and 2x seats bolted in to the rear.
I'll sell you my Traffic LWB Crew that is insurable as an estate 😉
Another vote for Brentacre, my traffic is in exactly the same 'modified van' hole. Couldn't have been more impressed with the service.
Insure it as a converted camper van
Most policies will require the V5C to be re-registered as a "MOTOR CARAVAN", some don't.
I put details in to an insurance search engine and was called by one of the brokers who guessed and asked "is this a camper? we can insure it as such, we don't mind if it doesn't say so on the V5C"
but anyway, when you say "day van" does it have anything that marks it out as a camper or it is actually a panel van with a couple of seats and windows?? so it could be a nearly a caravelle (and therefore try and get it registered as a "CAR")??
Brentacre here too. Used to be a panel van T5, but I added side windows and they insured it no problems.

I went direct with aviva for mine 8 seats. Was also £500 cheaper than the next quote
Brentacre again
My t4 is on with them
call HIC insurance they are very very helpful and have always offered me the best value insurance
Get it camper registered and then throw away the sink stove and porta potty.

'cos no insurance company's going to refuse to pay on a claim for a vehicle that's not as it was described to them at he time it was insured, right?
try lifesure.
Flux and NFU have both insured my van. It's been modified and has seats in the back.

I ended up with Brentacre.
thanks everyone, that was a great help - after phoning around you do seem to get a wide range of quotes - and i'm sick of reciting all my details over and over ,but the winner is
Adrian Flux!
just under 300 quid -perfect- time to get out and use the thing now! (when it stops raining!)
what-a-forum :-))))))))))))))))))))0
Aviva are great. Got bored with so called specialists taking forever to get back to me or being worse than mainstream for prices.
Adrian flux are a broker
What ever you do don't let them insure you with markerstudy
They have zero interest in your needs if you are in an accident......even when non fault.
