You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Just looked out the window when this evening to notice that my bike which i leave in a rack has been wrecked as through they tried to steal it. Parts taken.
renewed the insurance yesterday so wondering if it might be covered as it is not really stolen but no longer a 'bike'. Its my runaround but a good one at £600.
Reported to the disinterested police. Really annoying as i did not have to honk it up 3 flight of stairs.
What does the policy say?
Tried calling the insurance company? Most (if not all) have a 24hr claim line.
The police ought to be interested enough to at least give you a crime number to pass on to the insurance company; it doesn't require them to get their fat backsides off their nice comfy chair after all. 🙄
yep thanks got a crime number - like all those whose had a bike stolen/wrecked my emotions are a bit off the scale at the moment.
Check policy before phoning them, some say they only cover theft of bike, not parts or accessories. They wouldn't pay out for a stolen wheel on one of ours.
After you have checked you insurance carefully you might find out tomorrow that the thieves came back overnight to get the rest of the bike...
Fraud puts you in the same bracket as the thieves.
Phone them up and ask. I was surprised my contents away from home covered a snapped steerer and subsequent massive crash / write off
Reported to the disinterested police
They're uninterested, not disinterested, they're different.
You may find that whilst accessories aren't covered if the frame has been damaged it may still be covered. Basically, check your policy docs.
MrsMC had a CCCTV film of a guy, known to the police, stealing her Trek in Coventry. The police still did nothing. I think they also confused disinterested with uninterested.
Not interested in grammatical errors at this point more about securing a place for the runabout bike.
Had kept the bike in the flat until the house management company asked that all bikes be kept outside, due to new carpet and flooring.

maybe also speak to the house management company. it was their decision that forced you to leave your bike outside and put it at risk of theft. should they have provided a more adequately secure location to store the bike?

Something similar happened to me at our secure uni halls - the security/staff took me aside as said I couldn't keep it in my room any more.
So I took the bike apart after each ride (both wheels off, saddle out) and just carried it up like that. Argued it was outrageous I couldn't keep bike parts in my room as they were possessions like any other.
