So my insurer has subtly change my renewal to exclude bikes over £500 from contents. Which is why I went with them in the first place. Are there any insurers left who just count pedal cycles as part of the overall contents? I am struggling to find any.

Not interested in insurance for garage/ outbuildings or away from home as am happy to take the risk/ keep the price low.

Any good ones still around? Thanks

I'm with Halifax, with the x2 expensive bike as individually named items.

It's about £44 a month though. I did try and change a few months ago but I'm in a 250+ year old listed building near a stream so hard to get insurance for.

We have cover with Aviva through one of their Sub brands which allowed us to get an additional £30k of cover for the bikes, maximum £5k per bike. I have the details at home, so will check who it is later.

Nationwide have unlimited bikes under £1k value, anything else can be listed. £5k max value.

M&S are back to having decent bike cover on their insurance policy. No need to specifically list items.

Literally done some quotes today as my renewal was a 50% increase. Thanks nationwide. Best quote so far is 30% lower that last years premium with 3 bikes name worth £12k between them. That’s from the AA. Not read the small print yet but the bikes are list and named on the policy summary

It all depends how much your bikes are worth

ie less than 4/5k house insurance, if more than that a separate dedicated policy is cheaper

Pedal cover recently trumped m&s by 30% for me

Just received a letter from M&S saying that they are no longer selling home insurance so I will not be able to renew when my policy ends...

So, who is the next best?

All mine are covered by Aviva. I've been through the all of the documents with a fine toothed comb and there are no limits to value or number. It's the older AvivaPlus policy though and I don't think that's available to new customers.

M&S was underwritten by Aviva and they say Aviva will contact with a renewal quote (unless I opt out) offering their Aviva Signature Home Insurance….

Edit - just looked it up. Bikes limited to £5K

I’m in the same boat with M&S. I had a really old policy which I kept running because of the no nonsense bike cover. I have been in touch with Aviva and a bit frustrated with their lack  of knowledge with trying to get specific answers-too many “probablies”regarding total amounts covered for my liking. As far as I can make out if you specify the most expensive bike then all your bikes are covered up to a certain amount, £12000 if locked to an immovable object OUTSIDE, but only £7500 if in a locked garage or shed. I feel this doesn’t seem right and when I said they are in an alarmed garage, locked to the wall and each other they insist this is their policy.

Aviva here, with bikes up to £5k included. Which is a bit of a conundrum as I’ve just bought an e-bike for around £4k on sale, but it’s worth probably £6k. Touch wood I don’t have to claim, but would it be paid out on value, or purchase price. I seem to recall when getting the policy two or so years ago, it was the cost to replace them. As it’s all App based, I tried to add the specific bike but it simply says automatics cover for pedal cycles up to £5K, so it wouldn’t let me specify the new one.

I'm also with Aviva. When I took the policy out none of the 7 bikes were over £5k, but on renewal I checked and the replacement cost of three of them had gone up to over £6k. I emailed Aviva and they covered them for a small extra fee.

I just renewed with m&s today, so they are definitely still selling home insurance. It had gone up for the second year in a row by 15%, but with a few bikes between us the values really add up. At this point m&s is still plenty cheaper than standard insurance and a separate bike policy.

We're in the same boat with M&S not offering a renewal and had a letter from Aviva. Going to call them today as need to get clarification on the bike situation. They're in a locked garage which is part of the house and £7.5k should be enough, so fingers crossed.
