I'm looking for a water bottle (500ml) to take a hot drink with me when I'm out on a hike with the dog. Been looking at the chilly bottles. Are they worth the £20-30 price or are there any better options available.
I have found the Camelbak Forge range very good. They keep a hot drink hot for a long time, and easy to drink from without letting the heat out. I can see they have brought out a new version, haven’t tried that one.
Probs get a Stanley mug for much cheaper?
I've had travel type mugs before and found they leak so looking for something a bit more secure I can throw in a bag and not worry about leaks
We've a couple of LifeVenture screw top travel mugs, usually under £10 somewhere.
They don't leak, keep drinks warm for 4-5 hours and are much lighter/smaller than a flask.
Primark do a double wall 500ml aluminum bottle for £4. I got one last week. Halfway through a shift my coffee was too hot to sip straight from the bottle. Had to leave it sitting with the top off to cool down.
No need to spend more.
PS they are a similar shape to the chilly ones but plain aluminium. So unless you value the artwork .....
Have a look for the Tefal Travel mug. Stays hot for ages. The Grande is 500ml and £20, fits in a bottle cage, doesn't leak as long as you've closed the button!! Mines used pretty much every day for the last 4-5 years and still going strong.
My partner manages to destroy chilly bottles within a year and that's for office use - no idea what she does to them.

Bookmarking this as an avid flask user. Currently I have a couple of common or garden 500ml flasks which are 'ok' but troublesome on a bike. I had never considered a mug type thing - how long will they keep drinks warm for? And do you have to open them fully or do they have a spout?

Like B.A.Nana I have an Aldi or Lidl bottle only used for cold drinks so far.
Has been good.
Only issue is if you put too much water in it and the lid doesn't seal properly, so not sure how it'll cope with hot drinks!

Fits a standard bottle cage. Comes with cycling and walking tops.
Look in tkmaxx, there are normally a few choices in the kitchen section.
I’ve got a Chilly one from work, it’s very good indeed though it’s not great for drinking really hot drinks out of.
I also have a CamelBack Forge which is not quite as good at keeping a drink warm as the Chilly but is much better to drink from.
Finally, I have a RunBott bottle which is like a Chilly with a different lid. It’s very good indeed.

Just brilliant in the winter - hot Ribena for the younger ones and a sack load of espresso for me.
I quite like the Klean Kanteen bottles. The smaller ones actually fit perfectly in a bottle cage, which is an occasional bonus.
LifeVenture. Have used mine in a bottle cage many, many times with no issues. And you can get replacement seals should you need to.
