Did a search for recommendations and a few people recommend the Contigo but there's quite a few reviews complaining about the seal failing. Anybody got recent experience or care to recommend another. It's for my sister who currently has a Bodum which doesn't seem to be staying hot for as long and I have one and they're not the best sealed.

I have a couple of avex (contigo?) ones here.  Never used them tho - you can have 'em if you want - they are in the pile to go to the charity shop!

The best one I have is a Nespresso mug that I got as a freebie. Don't waste your money on a Yeti one.

Do you need "the best"?

I've got that was bought for me as it is "the best" as it keeps drinks near boiling hot for hours. It is useless as a travel mug though, as by the time I have finished my travel, my drink is still near boiling hot and thus remains un-drunk.

For pre-WFH 1 hour commute, my favoured was a cheap, poorly insulated one that allowed drinking for the middle 30 minutes.

I have one of these chaps and while it isn't cheap it is really good:

I have 2.
A CamelBack Forge which is great to drink from and keeps things reasonably hot for a good few hours.
And a RunBott bottle which isn't quite so good to drink out of but, particularly if it's pre-warmed, keeps drinks hot for hours. Very impressive heat retention.
Both are pretty rugged and will take a bit of a beating.

Never had one that keeps stuff at temperature as long as the contigo. The one person I know had an issue with seals emailed the company and the posted a replacement gratis. Can't really fault them for that. Every mug I've had failed at the seals. The contigo likes a light touch when tightening lid. I suspect they use thicker srlas which are easy to compress so easy to overtighten.

Contigo here, never had an issue with the seal. It could be used for transporting lava though. I'm sure it actually heats your drinks up as they strip the flesh off you mouth even after a couple of hours in the mug.

Have been given a Yeti . Briliant but only as a freebie. Cheapest possible is fine. To me they are only to keep liquid in as I loath anything to hot.

Would sir perhaps be interested in something in titanium:

https://snowpeak.co.uk/collections/flasks-bottles/products/titanium-350-kanpai-bottle

A touch expensive you say, well, it does have three lids sir....

I actually have one of these (it was a gift). I use it pretty much everyday (and have done for 5-6 years). It’s a thing of joy and beauty (well to me it is).

🤪

How water tight does it need to be.

If your not throwing it about or putting it upside down

Bodum stainless steel mugs are nice to drink from and last. Mines 10 years old and battered from alot of travel

Been looking for a replacement that isn't a press.....metalhearts looks nice.....but not 180 quid nice 🙂

More of a flask than a mug but I do like the Klean Kanteen ones.

The KK ones (with lid off) last me up to 1.5 hours sat at my desk (I often forget I’ve tea and normal cups get stone cold waaaaay before I’m finished.

Yeti Rambler is the only one I've trusted to just chuck in a bag and not leak.

Thermos ones are great. Got 2. Used to use them on uni days (1 day per week from work) one for the early morning drive in and the other would still be hot for the 7pm finish. Seal has never failed on me.

Contigo bryon lid seal keeps stretching and distorting, it is a pain to get back in place once its stretched too much it won't fit in grove meaning the lid leaks. As luck would have it they keep sending me new lids as its one of those "lifetime" warranties.

Just make sure you follow their filling regime.

.

Thank you for contacting Contigo Europe again. We are very sorry to hear about the recurring lid-related issue.

It is indeed disconcerting that the brand-new lid has developed the exact same fault. Therefore, we appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your thoughtful feedback.

We would suggest checking the temperature settings in your dishwasher. Our lids, as stated in a instruction, are top rack dishwasher safe. However, high temperature set in the dishwasher may cause the seal loose its initial shape. If you wash in a dishwasher, please make sure that:

The dishwasher temperature is set maximum to 60°C

The detergents used are of a high quality, however, you always hand wash your product or the above-mentioned conditions are fulfilled, my other advice would be as follows

Before putting the lid on the mug with the hot consents inside, please wait approximately three minutes to allow the beverage to cool off

After putting the lid on, please wait an additional minute with the Snap Seal button opened

Please describe in more details your daily routine with the products.

We would like to offer to replace your lid once more as the only solution to your issue. If you accept this proposal, let me know and we will arrange another delivery.

On lid number 5 or 6

Yeti rambler is excellent. The drink from any angle you pick it up is a nice idea.

Both that and the hydro flask ones have passed the “Chuck in a bag” test. Both keep stuff warm for hours.

Kleankanteen are good for keeping stuff warm, maybe better than the yeti, don’t think the lid seals quite as well.

2 contigos in this house, one older lid, one newer with the lock and foldy out to clean bit. Both super heat the contents and don't leak.

Thermos stainless flak bought 11 months ago on Amazon.... Failed. Lost its vacuum and doesn't keep stuff warm, Amazon seller refuses to replace.

I got one of those Singletrack KleenKanteen ones this week. Used it for the first time today. Filled it with 90C hot water at about 11:00 and made some Earl Grey tea in it. I finished that off at about 20:45 on the M62. It was still at a drinkable temperature. It's a fair weight, but it is the best thermo-mug I've used.

Contigo here, they were on offer at asda last year. Burnt my mouth last week so be warned. Dropped on rocks walking and still going but a bit battered.

Contigo West Loop - the other lid types aren't as good.

We have 6 in the house. Three different sizes Inc an extra big one I got from the USA.

Used them for more than 10yrs since they were Avex branded from Costco. Never had any issues.

You can wash the tops in the dishwasher but not the cups - coz you'll loose the nice anodised finish. If the lid gets smelly because you've left a latte in it for 2 weeks - put some white wine vinegar in the cup and then invert it overnight. Does the job.

It depends how insulated you want it.

The Contigo is very good but is too efficient for most uses, the drink is often too hot to drink. As the seal failed on mine I reverted to a cheap vacuum flask which does the same thing, holds more and is cheaper. I also have an Aladdin recycled mug for when I want to take a hot drink with me. On the morning dog walk I fill that with my brew. It cools down steadily, such that after 15 minutes i can start drinking the brew, but then after I've drunk about half of it it cools down quickly, whereas the COntigo just seemed to stay hot forever, and was incredibly big whereas the Aladdin slips in to most pockets quite easily.

Anyone tried a Deboyo race? M8 just bought one and I like the look of it, especially longer cold winter rides, as it fit into a waterbottle mount. I'm with those above that don't want it to insulate too highly, as I've fallen for that before! G/f less than impressed when I reported her travel mug present, was too good, and I needed a cheaper one...

Best one I have came from Wildbean cafe years ago. It's solid, does a good job keeping it hot and isn't pricey at all. Get it at the cafe, or Amazon have them.

Got a Contigo and a couple of Camelbaks. Neither of the Camelbaks have ever leaked in the 10 odd years we have had them. The automatic closure is great when on the move. Drop it but no spill, warm rather than hot after 6 hours. Contigo has a larger capacity but I feel is an office based option compared to the Camelbak.

I've had a thermos Bodem travel mug for around 8years - great for the car. Can travel a good hour or two before drinking. Only down side is it does leek from the drinking hole if rolled on its side.

Why do people use insulated mugs in the office? Surely you use a mug, drink it, then get another from the kitchen?

I got a £2 travel mug from Morrisons a few years ago. Definitely not leak proof and definitely not very well insulated. But, it fitted in my wierdly small cup holder and allowed the drink to cool down to a drinkable temperature within the time I still wanted to drink it.
If I want a drink to stay hot for later in the day then I use a proper thermos flask.

another Contigo user - mines going strong after 5 years. As others have stated, drink goes in hot, comes back out centre of the earth hot clearly defying chemistry/physics witchery..

I’ve had a variety of travel mugs over the years, and none of them have proved to be anywhere near as effective as the generic screw-top steel bottles that are everywhere these days. I’ve got four so far, two I bought from Wilco’s for a fiver apiece, the other two are work swag, and I love the things, they keep drinks hot or cold for hours, keep the contents in place when the lid is screwed on, and are easy to dink from without whatever liquid is inside spilling. I have one that I fill with green tea for work, specifically because green tea doesn’t taste manky after an hour or so, unlike tea with milk in.
The others have cold water in, with added ice during hot weather - I’ve discovered that B&M do a tray for making ice ‘cylinders’, with rounded ends that just push out of the tray, and they’re an exact fit for the neck of the bottle! Half a dozen in the bottle, then top up with water, lovely and cold for hours.

Another vote for Contigo Autoseal. About 3 years old. Put both base and lid in the dishwasher. Took about a year for all the colour coating to come off the base. Now a cool matt stainless look. Leak proof and also has auto-reheat built in!
