Looking for recommendations for a 1L stainless steel flask with two cups.
Google brings up a few, but as I've found out in the past, some can be good, some can be shite.
For winter hiking mostly.
I don't have a 1tr but I do have two 500Ml "Thermos" flasks (one for my partner & myself), that work a treat & have been in use for over 2 years without issue, so can recommend the brand.
.. but I thought everyone had to have a Stanley mug, to be trendy nowadays
Young lass at work has Stanley mug. Barely fits in the door of the van. Ridiculous thing, and leaks when tipped over.
We have 2 x 500ml flasks, but the soup mix we use is 1 pack per 1L and would save a lot of hassle to dump it in 1 flask and be done.
I use this one from Decathlon, and I like it a lot
just carry an extra mug? Or is that a problem?
For lightness, GSI is what we use. Or Kleen Kanteen for metal stuff.
😀 at the stanley trend, tbh I was trying to recommend the thermo brand, not suggesting you need two
my stanley "classic" flask was shite .... utterly shite - has never kept shit warm
would not buy again
I use a thermos food flask and kleen kanteen vacuum mug daily and both work well and have proven to be robust.
Thermos with the flip-top and small metal latch here, many years old, reliable ime. We have 2. One got launched along a rocky trail once, has a big dent and still works fine. No leaks and dribbles unlike most. Got a couple of larger generic brand screw top flasks with cup lids which often make a minor dribbly mess but I'd trust the Thermos version.
Zojirushi for me. Coffee flask has survived a decade of dropping out of car doors, falling off tables etc. There’s a larger one left here at a reasonable price - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zojirushi-SF-CC20XA-Sports-Stainless-68-Ounce/dp/B0012SIMKO
It always, pretty obviously, helps to pre-warm the flask with boiling water.
Sorry - link got screwed. Amazon item code is B0012SIMKO, and description is Zojirushi-SF-CC20XA-Sports-Stainless-68-Ounce, so 1.3l or thereabouts.
Klean Kanteen is the way to go.
leak proof, and no aftertaste.
ikea do a 1 litre effort👍
Had a cheap one, then got a Thermos. No complaints.
Good Thermos ones here - usually too hot to drink if you make at breakfast and want a cuppa at lunch, only by end of day are they cooling significantly.
I also do 2x smaller flasks for flexibility. Also, much of the performance on a cold hill day comes down to hiding them deep in your spare clothing, not leaving them in a cold wind on the outside of a rucksack. One of mine has a home-made bubble-insulation cosy cover for super warmth.
I've found Stanley and Thermos to be the most reliable brands - even small ones keep stuff hot for a surprisingly long time - I've had cheaper stainless flasks that seem to work well enough initially inexplicably lose their insulation abilities if they get a bit of knock - even if there isn't actually any visible damage
Interestingly - I've noticed that Yeti sell spare lids and caps for their products which seems very sensible as flasks obviously get rendered useless if those bits are lost of damaged
There always seems to be very good deals on thermos and Stanley flasks in TK Maxx
I've got a Vango one that I've had for about 35 years now, its still going strong whilst cheaper ones have fallen by the wayside.
I have a Yeti Rambler 1L bottle which is - one of those and whatever two mugs you want (maybe a couple of Yeti stackable mugs 😉)

Yes and the ones for the bottles are interchangable so you can have a lid with a straw and then change to a sealed screw in lid, etc. Makes them a bit more useful.
oh and a 5 year warranty 👍
Yeti are very good, that'd be my start point. I use various versions of their offerings almost every day.
black + blum is also very good. It retains heat very well and I have two - 500ml and 850ml. Metal stopper with silicone gasket seal.
I have another Thermos (1.8 L - Plastic outer and glass inner) to keep hot water in my kitchen, but the flask stopper would slowly "disintegrate / melt" after many years of usage. The replacement is around £5 - £6.
Personally, I prefer metal stopper with silicone gasket because some plastic stoppers are not durable.
Thermos
I use the older version of this

The hat holding ability is volcanic
I must admit I prefer the steel ‘bottle’ type with a screw top, I’ve accumulated a bunch of them, a couple I bought, others were dished out at work for teams working outside in very hot weather, but I used to take one with hot green tea in as well, filled with boiling water for a minute or two, water tipped out into a jug with a teabag, stirred around for a couple of minutes, then the water/tea poured back into the bottle. Still hot enough to drink seven or eight hours later.
Never tried soup, though; I’ll have to give it a go, when I’m next out for a walk on a cold afternoon.
I've been using a genuine chilli bottle as a flask in winter and it's been very good. I carry a little cup from an old flask that went manky, I'll never forget the day I pressed the button to pour and a little green poo came out of the spout.
Big flask is one of those thermos hammerite jobs. It's phenomenal and stays hot enough for tea making way into the evening.
I generally only have hot pop on the hill so it's going in the flask at scorchio temperature
Thermos, nothing else can compare for the length of time it can keep stuff warm. Have a see if they have what you want in the ultimate range, I have one I put hot chocolate in for hikes and it stays like lava!
Got the Stanley 1l. Only one cup, but it keeps hot things hot for a long time and cold things cold for ages.
I live in a van. I'll put the stove on in the morning, boil up done water and fill up the flask. Means I don't have to faff with the kettle every time I want a cuppa.

If you just want a mug/flask for one drink then I can highly recommend Contigo.
Hold the heat for ages.

Zojirushi here too, great heat retention
That Stanley's the same one I had.
Same one I have and it's crap as was the originals warranty replacement So either their crap or their quality or their durability are crap.. none of the above are desirable qualities better products exist.
Tkmaxx usually has a pile of random flasks on one of their shelves. I picked up a thermos ultimate insulation flask, 900ml and 1 cup. Works well enough for me.
