Hey just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this app?
I'm interested in taking photos and use it to share the admittedly mediocre ones that I take from time to time. I like to think that I'm treating it like a personal blog and a record of experiences for myself, something to look back on. Unfortunately there is the other side...
The likes, the followers (not that I have many) its kind of addictive isnt it? Or is it just sad and egotistical?
FB for people with really bad ADHD...
I think overall it's a much nicer place than FaceBook, less negativity and you can easily block users/spammers etc.
There are some wonderful photographers on there
Try 500px instead.
You can make your instagram private-ish if you just want it for you.
I used to use it to inspire other people in their framebuilding journey and people followed because of that ,a lot use it to borrow ideas etc...don't really give two shits if someone likes or dislikes the content eventually I just made it private because it's all pretty personal stuff to me and the stuff I build now isn't really for public consumption
Like anywhere it attracts opinionated nob ends
Imstagram works well if you use it properly. The main one is to only follow things/people which you are really into. It builds algorithms around hashtags and content that you follow, like or interact with to give you suggested content you might like. Keep it short and around your passions.
I use mine as my own little photo album. Not bothered about likes. Works well for me.
I find it better than Facebook which seems to revolve around peoples opinions and sharing some poor content.
Insta is probably my favourite SM platform. You rarely see lazy regurgitated memes and where as Facebook can be an endless stream of people humblebrags, mindless drivel, 'do you remember crisps?' nostalgia and Twitter is like sitting in a room full of people all screaming at each other. Insta is usually a lot less content, but higher quality.
Of course, any SM platform is only as good as the output you choose to view.
I ditched Facebook completely, so kept a few friends and family on Insta. That's it. Only see what I want. Still getting used to it though.
I *like it.
*Apart from the ****ing adverts.
I use it to keep my own biking related photos. I keep it private, and only allow people I actually know to view them.
Not at all interested or bothered by how many followers or likes my pictures get.
Its easy to find good content of interests you have - and easy to avoid the FB/Twitter type attention seekers too.
I love it. I've learned so much from it - it's not just about the photography (if you don't want it to be).
It's good. With a chronological post order it would be great.
Seems to be a huge ego trip for some - I'm using to promote my business but find some are simply " IG follower whores" trying to boost their profile - most of their content isn't even original - they follow you, you follow back and they then unfollow you. IG doesn't make it easy to track them so have installed a 3rd party app and regularly go through my "unfollowers"
I like it, being a visual type of person.
I use it only for my furniture making exploits. I find I get followed by lots of users who all they seem to do is post pictures of other peoples stuff.
I find that weird.
I also get the occasional follow from ladies in their pants who take pictures of themselves with trout lip pouts.
People are weird man... 🤔
It's a shame that Facebook bought it. I thought it was nicely different but they're heading nearer each other I think.
The square photo thing is annoying sometimes.
I tend to use different social media for different things.
Facebook for keeping in touch with friends and clubs and events, although i only carry on with it for events and the like as it is getting worse and worse, i often just see same ads over and over.
Twitter is more following the news, films, music and actual articles and interests.
Instagram is good if you use it just to follow things that really benefit from images, custom frame builders, events you think you may want to do in future, but it does the feed the whole "inst-generation" who seem to making a living out of posting up photos of their seemingly perfect life. i never really follow anyone back, even if they follow me.
its good for my business which is visually/media based, i don't have a lot of followers or even really cultivate them but it use it as a research tool and to see whats going on in my area of work.
i also follow a few non work interests.
there are an awful lot of deeply troubled narcissists on there though, mostly women.
i get the odd follow (by bots) and have a look at their page and it’s all pics of themselves preening.
'boyfriends of instagram’ is good for a laugh though.
Mine is mostly biking photos, not much personal on it. I might start a second one for family/friends that's more than just ooo look at my bike on a hill.
The ones that follow you to follow them back are easy to spot, few thou followers but then only follow a few hundred, obvious what they're going to do and the feed is usually recycled garbage, tag a friend shite.
If it’s good enough for Sick!
they follow you, you follow back and they then unfollow you
Or you simply don't follow them back. That's easier surely?
I follow cycling tags around my city..end up following a fair few local cyclists...some of them might be females..who share pics of their bike or their rides....all quite nice .... then on the story...I'm wearing this today #boomerang up n down body... Or #thisismy eye make-up today with massive close up pictures of an eye.. bit weird like... over time you build up a picture of them and their lives...in your mind... then one day you meet them...,, out on bikes strangely enough... Bit weird..errrr. lol.
I use it mostly for my Artwork and Readymade Art photographs.

FOLLOW ME 😉 or I might fall into the pond.
PS Dont like Facebook ownership :(.
“Too” it’s flipping “too” arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
over 5k of pics on mine, I hope there is at least one that has inspired someone to get out on their bicycle
Just gave you a follow to see what is so inspiring, scrolled down to see a sausage sandwich drowned in brown sauce. Wrongun
It is complete spherical and in the plural, and by in large encapsulates a great deal of what is wrong with the egotistical self centred world we live in.
I hate it with a passion you can only dream of.
Is another point of view.... 🙂
Use it loads, great for sharing a pic to Facebook and Twitter, catches most people and lots of things that go one are nicely put through there, seems to be platform of choice for bike stuff
Like any social platform it's more about how you use it rather than anything else
@RD - I follow you but I'm not a stalker honest.....
Boy1 uses it as a journal of his University model making course / work. I only follow him to see what he's up to.
He's had some very good feedback from industry bods and picked up a bit of freelance work from it.
Like all SM you get out of it what you put in or follow. If it's crap then it means you're following crap.
Im really proud of the fact that im not a part of the IG crowd.
I have tried it a few times for photography stuff but I can't get past the hashtags, I know what they are for and I get it but it just gets under my skin and winds me up far more than it should.
I am Ok with #camera name, #lenses used and the #place but then it descends into #livingmybestlife, #lifewithoutchildren, #i'msolucky etc and I want to launch may laptop across the room.
Chillax Hooli!
Just do what I do and only look at the pictures most of the time.
A friend of mine just won a AUS$20,000 art prize after being 'discovered' on Instagram.
Story here if intersted.

@RD – I follow you but I’m not a stalker honest…..
all welcome 😁
I really like Instagram. If you're careful with who you follow it's possible to create a really interesting feed, and not just full of what people you used to work with/go to school with had for lunch.
I've also met a few people on there who are now riding buddies.
Never understood Twitter though, and never really use Facebook.
