Great news, a smorgasbord of dark comedy. I love everything Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith have produced (that I have seen). Whenever I see them in interviews though I can't help but ponder their smugness and likeability, or lack of. Really weird one and irrelevant given I appreciate the output, but it's always there niggling. Maybe just me. For reference I am not that likable either.

Would you expect people who create 'dark' work to be cuddly and lovable? I'd expect them to be dark, disturbed individuals themselves. (In the case of these two, I haven't noticed their lack of likeability though, or smugness, thinking about it.)

Yeah, that was a bit disappointing. Think I’ve either missed something or I need the podcast to explain

I'm feeling a bit uneducated as I can't recall which classic play this is a riff on. Maybe a Shakespeare where the 4th wall is broken.

My OH spotted that it was based on some Italian classic comedy, possibly mediaeval?

Yeah the masks suggested it was based on some play but it was too pantomime like, maybe intended, but if it really was a poor one.

I read it was based on a traditional style of play that would always have the same type of character, a captain, a rogue, a harlequin etc. That combined with a heist movie. Then on top of that contrasting being "clever" with knob gags and jokes about bumming.

Did my head in. I rewatched all 5 series over the last few weeks in prep, but I’m too thick to get this one.

I always lose interest with that talking to camera / 4th wall shite. Just find it annoying.

I'm with that. I didn't get all the references (but going to listen to the inside inside podcast later which will likely explain) but very clever. Watched most of it twice last night (we were 3/4 through when someone else arrived so watched from the start again)

- yes, that helps

Don't over thinking it.

To me it was a Shakespeare's version of Reservoir Dogs.

Enjoy the bits you get, don't worry about the bits you don't.

The genius is it works on many different levels ... bit like Toy Story is for kids and adults alike, this episode was for cultured adults and then the rest of us ... LOL

I'd imagine you could watch the episode again and again and find different thing in it every
time you watch it.

Looking forward to next week .... Motherland before it, is also also pretty good.

I enjoyed it, but I'm simple. All very meta and reference-y, eg. the shout of "stop Fleabagging" during one of the 4th wall breaks.

Excellent tonight. And nice to see Nick Mohammed who is a friend of a friend*

Not very subtle Game of Thrones references

*went to uni with a mate. Saw him at Edinburgh in 2006 or something.  Very remote connection

Just watched the first 2 from this series. Much preferred the first one. I am one of the few people who has never watched a mi Ute of game of thrones so the second one was all a bit wasted on me.

Agreed, never seen a minute of GoT but I know enough about the reaction to the ending to get the analogy.

another +1 for episode 1 over episode 2. It was a clever mix of the commedia dell'arte to satisfy my desire to be clever with enough Dad jokes and crap one liners to satisfy the real me.

Ep 2 was just a bit ordinary compared to what they usually do. Oh look, here's a story and there's a twist at the end. With some references.

Ep 2 was alright. I don't think I'll play this game of who's the nerdiest comedy watcher anymore though. I shall just watch em and enjoy (or not)

I had to reads reviews on a couple to understand what was going on.

Enjoyed most of this series though, especially the one in the hotel room, I didn't see that many twists coming.

The appetite to dissect the episodes didn't last long on here so thought people had become a bit bored by this seasons episodes.

Think I liked it overall to be honest, but a couple of duff ones for sure which is actually the same as season 5

I'm sure there used to be more variety as to what the 9 was. Now it seems to mainly be just the number of the house.

Watched all six, thought they were very, very poor. Especially the last two. The format of 'dramatic twist at the end' is just getting tired now and very evident over the last few seasons.

I'd like to see a new season of Psychoville.

Did anyone else miss the live tour? Saw an advert this evening, assumed it would be next year. Turns out that no, it's actually the Manchester (the one I would've gone to) show tonight! Slipped right under my radar that.

Edit - and 5 minutes after typing this post, I get an email from Ticketmaster about last minute tickets!

I got that he was the mythological boat man straight away. It's one of the most common tropes. Never knew his name though.

I laughed during the first episode and thought it a nice uplifting start to the series. Just thought there was more to the story that I had missed.

I guess we have been spoiled with hight budget multiple actor/storyline shows.
4 people in a peado with no visual distraction and they keep you spellbound in the storyline it's proper telly Diane Morgan was excellent.
A good start to the new season.
And if you have never listened to the league of gentlemen on the radio it's on the iPlayer now just not every episode.
