There’s a reason I’m not the designer, but I’m having a go too:

Edit: there’s a reason I’m not the Tech people too. I’m @1fishonabike on instagram if you’re fussed enough to want a look.
Use Postimages.org Hannah.
Looks good mogrim. that four eyed Tiger makes me go cross eyed, think my brain is trying to treat it like one of those 3d magic eye pictures! Love the wasp and beetle, brilliant.
Interesting stuff Hannah, particularly liked "shy" as an interpretation
good stuff on there hannah, post up some up here, join in. 🙂 you can use www.imgur.com or postimages as per drac.
you've got that style nailed dunno why you are doubting yourself!
Without wanting to get into a "woe is me" diatribe I guess I was frustrated last night by not being able to settle on or execute an idea. I initially wanted to do a white drawing on black to keep in with the Sin City aesthetic and my style (for it is just my style) really doesn't lend itself well to that. Now I could have taken my time and refined my lines and figured out exactly where the shadows and highlights needed to fall once I'd gotten the composition down but I just couldn't.
I haven't so much nailed a style as become trapped by it. I can draw other ways but they require a lot more planning or forethought and I now very quickly default to a line heavy, sketchy style.
Gah. It's all moot anyway because more drawing and more practice would obviously get me over this hump, but you know it's like when you've developed a bad habbit riding the bike or something. Even though they are bad habbits you become reliant on them and they are hard to break.
I follow this dude on IG who is a bit handy with the ink and also draws MTBs

Well I for one couldn't care less what you use. It's not like you're claiming it to be something that it's not. Well done, although your ink drawings are superior.
Just thought I'd give it a go, no done anything like that since college years ago, use it all the time though for other things, I don't get paid to be an illustrator, my job's much more mundane!
You know one thing that's always really annoyed me about photoshop, why isn't there a keyboard shortcut to rotate a brush, live, I know you can do it in the panel, but that's clunky. Or is there and I've just missed it? Would come in handy if I decide to add the fine detail to that image. infact I'll need to see if i can set a custom short cut, it's mibbe in there.
Still much prefer seeing manual artwork though. But aye, you can take this a surrender on the photoshop point! 😉
one and only from me though, ink all the way, getting an addiction to drawing i think.
That's brilliant, really like that malvern. excellent.
I also like that. Not sure exactly what it is, but spooky all the same. Is that zen brush?
If only all forum/general internet stuff that teetered on arguments, ended up like this; an acknowledgment of differences and hat-tipping to respective talents.
Probably the fact talents are in play makes that difference 🙂
Is that zen brush?
Yep. Zen Brush 2
Not sure exactly what it is
A solitary fat arrogant f***. Greedily warring with lumbering surety. A bloody sword in one hand, the heads of enemies in the other. A black sun in the sky. A sea of blood.
Thanks for positive comments folks. Have been working this last 2.5 years with pigment, brush knives and last year began sketching ideas at night again with the iPad. It will be inked when I've mixed a big batch. It feels like it has to be very big!
Keep on drawing - agree this is an energising and creative thread ❗
I'll no post the source this time, see if anyone can guess who it is.
I'd probably get a kicking round these parts for this kinda sacrilege!
(I really believe in this having to do a couple of hundred of portraits before I get any good, this is number 3, 😆 )
No 13. the big plook on the end of his nose if very dissapointing, that was ment to be light, picked up the wrong pen!
hmm, thought that worked on here.
I'm seeing some kinda pagan/tribal sacrifice in that, maybe under an eclipse or to the some kinda dark sun god. It's really interesting I think.

That's disappointing. It was supposed to be my puppy
😆
😆
Pretty sure sacrificing puppies in pagan rituals belongs in the unwanted thoughts thread
Jock Stein?
phew, thank god ye got that! good man! 😆
Jock Stein?
Don't be silly. Who'd name a puppy Jock Stein?
Oops, didn’t see the spoiler.

liking all those!
Hellboy next I think. Never drawn him before iirc.
very nice, liking all of those 🙂 Where've you gone Drac, come back and join in.
Well he's probably busy on full mod alert what with every other thread this week being about unwanted sexual advances, prostitution and...er tumble dryers.
brilliant! think I'm going to go back in to scribbly mode(not that I've ever really left it! 😆 ), learn dimensions and different positions/angles of heads and bodies and the like for a bit, a wee bit of learning to do there for me. Really need to learn to do hair aswell.

Still watching. I might have a little go later today if I get the chance.

I've got a great book called Anatomy for the artist by Jeno Barcsay. Definitely worth grabbing if you see a copy on ebay or something. Beyond that just copy photographs from the net or magazines, and draw them out from the skeleton first.
EDIT: What I mean is copy the figure as you normally would but then look at the pose and draw the skeleton into the outline of the figure, and any combination of the above.
cool, will have a look, that alphonso dunn channel i posted up pages ago is great, got a lot of idea of where to go from him too. As with every, it's just practice, commitment and time.
just bought that, for 6 quid delivery, canny go wrong eh. Couple of weeks for delivery though.
Well you can't go wrong at that price. I paid the princely sum of £15 for a second hand hardback copy. I can't remember ow long ago that was, I only remember haggling with a cigar smoking old woman who wouldn't budge 🙂
very good twirlip, like that, keep them coming! 🙂
I like how dynamic the runner looks without needing any other visual cues other than the body positioning and hair.
Attempt at loosening up and drawing from imagination, trying to recreate a scene I saw on TV with forest, mist bands running across, mountains behind then clouds and sky. Not happy with hatching for the sky and think the most needed to look "looser"

I've been trying to draw from the imagination. Not the runner, that's from a photo of Roger Bannister, but on other days. I'm finding it takes a lot of research and reference.
This was day 4:
I needed a few pics of longships, a few of the sea and a few of the appropriate dinosaurs.
It's hard work but it's out of my comfort zone which is kind of the point I guess.
That's great, could be a great cover for some of the books (beast quest, rick riordan) my lad reads!
Just catching up with the thread. It's bloody great 8) Find myself humming the gallery music from Take Hart while browsing 😆
Annoyed i missed the skulls phase - i heart drawing skulls 😀
Shut up and draw a skull 😈
Had to colour it in 🙂
I think I will be calling it ...
"Tipping Point"

I think you did right to colour it in. IMVHO that's exponentially better than the first draft you posted.
Cool!
Thanks guys 🙂
Might throw a watercolour wash on it next....but it's on used a4 phootcopy paper.
All part of the fun 🙂
I would just add that I really loved that Viking boat and pliosaur image.

I actually really like that, canny quite make out if some of the trees are trees or people running about the hills, quite interesting, scribbles are awesome, and other peoples eye's won't always see what you see. there's a weird duality to it, in a good way.
+1 on viking boat, post up people, don't leave your stuff hidden behind links!
colour a good choice on the spitfire too.
jimjam - MemberShut up and draw a skull
The plan was to draw one when i got home last night but i couldn't find any paper! So another early morning work doodle i'm afraid. Drawing from memory so it's not structurally accurate - but that's half the fun 😀 Took a few pics of the progress but the office is filling up and this is as far as i got....
I love drawing with cheapo bic pens but it's all to easy to get carried away and end up with a very dark image.
Yer coming on no end can't bike, try thinking about contrast and light and dark, see how you get on with that. (something I need to consider too.)
Euro that's a cracking skull. Know exactly what you mean I struggle at times with getting carried away and not doing enough at times. It's a fine balance.
There's some awesome stuff on this thread.
For the skull drawing people, this is free and pretty snazzy:
http://anatomy360.info/skull-sketcher-v2/
And for anatomy fun you could do a lot worse than look at the Art Pose mobile apps (android and iOS). I've got tonnes of anatomy books (well, maybe 5) but I've found these more useful as you can generate the pose you actually want and learn through usage.

And finally, this is last nights go at 'shattered'.
That's great twirlip, reall like it. It puts me in mind of the Ian Jackson 'Fighting Fantasy' books for some reason. Anyone remember those?
Do you illustrate professionally, ie books etc?
Malvern: Ta. I had quite a few of them. I never had the patience to play them all the way through but I think I came closest with Deathtrap Dungeon which was my favourite.
Malvern: No. I'm an amateur. Took it up in earnest about 5 years ago. I am very keen though 🙂
cracking CB. yunki, volume of output we're looking from you now, take inspiration from CBs improvements!! 🙂
twirl, aye I was thinking that's good enough to be professional too! 🙂
😆 knew you were at it!
🙂
Cool stuff.
Missed out last night but did a second skull after the first which shows improvement.

Then on Wednesday remembered seeing someone drawing a load of paper planes, so I can't take credit for the idea, but I came up with this:

Couple of smudges due to it still being wet, and I've coloured in the back ground. So may do another one but take my time and not smudge it.
This evening I may give Hellboy a go as I've never drawn him either. Although loving Marv, so might give something from Sin City a try. . .
Nice work drac, definite improvement
