There’s a reason I’m not the designer, but I’m having a go too:

Looks good mogrim. that four eyed Tiger makes me go cross eyed, think my brain is trying to treat it like one of those 3d magic eye pictures! Love the wasp and beetle, brilliant.

Interesting stuff Hannah, particularly liked "shy" as an interpretation

Without wanting to get into a "woe is me" diatribe I guess I was frustrated last night by not being able to settle on or execute an idea. I initially wanted to do a white drawing on black to keep in with the Sin City aesthetic and my style (for it is just my style) really doesn't lend itself well to that. Now I could have taken my time and refined my lines and figured out exactly where the shadows and highlights needed to fall once I'd gotten the composition down but I just couldn't.

I haven't so much nailed a style as become trapped by it. I can draw other ways but they require a lot more planning or forethought and I now very quickly default to a line heavy, sketchy style.

Gah. It's all moot anyway because more drawing and more practice would obviously get me over this hump, but you know it's like when you've developed a bad habbit riding the bike or something. Even though they are bad habbits you become reliant on them and they are hard to break.

Just for sheer hypocrisies sake! 😆 Could spend a lot more time fixing this up properly as there's loads still needing done, but this is todays skive(pens and paper would be a bit too obvious)!

I'm no including this in my 31!

Well I for one couldn't care less what you use. It's not like you're claiming it to be something that it's not. Well done, although your ink drawings are superior.

Just thought I'd give it a go, no done anything like that since college years ago, use it all the time though for other things, I don't get paid to be an illustrator, my job's much more mundane!

You know one thing that's always really annoyed me about photoshop, why isn't there a keyboard shortcut to rotate a brush, live, I know you can do it in the panel, but that's clunky. Or is there and I've just missed it? Would come in handy if I decide to add the fine detail to that image. infact I'll need to see if i can set a custom short cut, it's mibbe in there.

Still much prefer seeing manual artwork though. But aye, you can take this a surrender on the photoshop point! 😉

one and only from me though, ink all the way, getting an addiction to drawing i think.

If only all forum/general internet stuff that teetered on arguments, ended up like this; an acknowledgment of differences and hat-tipping to respective talents.

Probably the fact talents are in play makes that difference 🙂

Is that zen brush?

Yep. Zen Brush 2

Not sure exactly what it is

A solitary fat arrogant f***. Greedily warring with lumbering surety. A bloody sword in one hand, the heads of enemies in the other. A black sun in the sky. A sea of blood.

Thanks for positive comments folks. Have been working this last 2.5 years with pigment, brush knives and last year began sketching ideas at night again with the iPad. It will be inked when I've mixed a big batch. It feels like it has to be very big!

Keep on drawing - agree this is an energising and creative thread ❗

I've got a great book called Anatomy for the artist by Jeno Barcsay. Definitely worth grabbing if you see a copy on ebay or something. Beyond that just copy photographs from the net or magazines, and draw them out from the skeleton first.

EDIT: What I mean is copy the figure as you normally would but then look at the pose and draw the skeleton into the outline of the figure, and any combination of the above.

I like how dynamic the runner looks without needing any other visual cues other than the body positioning and hair.

Attempt at loosening up and drawing from imagination, trying to recreate a scene I saw on TV with forest, mist bands running across, mountains behind then clouds and sky. Not happy with hatching for the sky and think the most needed to look "looser"

I've been trying to draw from the imagination. Not the runner, that's from a photo of Roger Bannister, but on other days. I'm finding it takes a lot of research and reference.

This was day 4:

I needed a few pics of longships, a few of the sea and a few of the appropriate dinosaurs.

It's hard work but it's out of my comfort zone which is kind of the point I guess.

I actually really like that, canny quite make out if some of the trees are trees or people running about the hills, quite interesting, scribbles are awesome, and other peoples eye's won't always see what you see. there's a weird duality to it, in a good way.

+1 on viking boat, post up people, don't leave your stuff hidden behind links!

colour a good choice on the spitfire too.

Shut up and draw a skull

The plan was to draw one when i got home last night but i couldn't find any paper! So another early morning work doodle i'm afraid. Drawing from memory so it's not structurally accurate - but that's half the fun 😀 Took a few pics of the progress but the office is filling up and this is as far as i got....

[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]

I love drawing with cheapo bic pens but it's all to easy to get carried away and end up with a very dark image.

Yer coming on no end can't bike, try thinking about contrast and light and dark, see how you get on with that. (something I need to consider too.)

Euro that's a cracking skull. Know exactly what you mean I struggle at times with getting carried away and not doing enough at times. It's a fine balance.

There's some awesome stuff on this thread.

For the skull drawing people, this is free and pretty snazzy:

http://anatomy360.info/skull-sketcher-v2/

And for anatomy fun you could do a lot worse than look at the Art Pose mobile apps (android and iOS). I've got tonnes of anatomy books (well, maybe 5) but I've found these more useful as you can generate the pose you actually want and learn through usage.

http://www.art-pose.com/artpose.html

And finally, this is last nights go at 'shattered'.

Cool stuff.

Missed out last night but did a second skull after the first which shows improvement.

Then on Wednesday remembered seeing someone drawing a load of paper planes, so I can't take credit for the idea, but I came up with this:

Couple of smudges due to it still being wet, and I've coloured in the back ground. So may do another one but take my time and not smudge it.

This evening I may give Hellboy a go as I've never drawn him either. Although loving Marv, so might give something from Sin City a try. . .
