Go for it, lets see them! Stick men are cool.

Think it should be re-stated that the whole point of this inktober thing is simply self improvement, and the repeated process of doing it day after day is the only way to improve.

I reckon all you that say you can't draw, should challenge yourselves.

Put pen to paper, don't think about it and put self criticism to the side, just keep drawing, don't look back. Then post up your stuff, at the end of the month have a look back and see how much you've improved. I bet you'll be surprised at your ability/improvement!

jake parker videos are worth a watch as well btw, that's the guy that started this inktober thing.

Here's him talking about starting it, and showing you his inktober stuff over the years.

[img] [/img] third attempt, frustrated by the perspective on the side of the car,I could see it but it's like my brain insisted on drawing it much more side on them it was, the wheels needed to be much more ellipsoid. My wife made much the same comment as Jimjam was saying above, in that I need to loosen up. (She did a level art). Going to have a go at the skull exercise, yours was fine Drac, was obvious what it was.

Yeah, my free flowing minimal marks skull looked pretty similar! Did some leaves and a flower trying to flow, then did the skull again.

I was thinking about this when on the bike today. I suppose ultimately what I was trying to say was ....swing your hands around like you are pretending to be an artist 😉

I got pretty bored with Head Lopper surprisingly quickly. Wish I'd gone for more of an action scene. Hey ho. Couldn't even be arsed taking another photograph when I realised that one was out of focus.

No. 7

Man, anything beyond even surfaces I'm utterly useless at, shading uneven surfaces is hard!

Think I'm gonny buy some brush pens and a range of tones see how I get on with those. The cross hatching patter I have no patience for, I think I'm done with that! Time to try and learn another style i think. f'd this right up. Shame as I thought the basic sketch was alright before I rubbed it out too, if a bit long in the vertical, I've always preferred pencils..

Looking good people. Keep it up, great to see people having a go who've never done it before, or trying new things.

I've moved away from my trusty dip pen and grabbed a brush.
The result being this:

Quickly underdrawn with pencil, then attacked with india ink and water. I forgot to begin with that india ink is waterproof so blending is a bit tricky (compared to water colour).

Enjoyed it though, also realised that pros use shorter brushes!

That Enterprise is superb.

It reminds me, the only vague art skills I ever had, I used to be into ASCII art. I once drew the NX-01 Enterprise from the prequel show, totally off-topic but I could post that if anyone cares?

I'm gonny lossen up for a bit i think, defo gonny to buy some brush pens. this was a quick line outline i did yesterday, but didn't know where to go. just decided to destroy it there. no more attempts at precision from me for a while! 😆

I'm might stop under sketching aswell for a bit and just let the ink say what it's got to say!

No 8. that's me caught up! 🙂

Cougar, find image of pretty lady on the internet (after lots of looking), do rough outline sketch of different areas to shade then colour in.

I had seen pretty much the same image a long time ago and have been meaning to have a go myself for a few years. Finally got around to it.

Here is the outline sketch of my first attempt which I buggered up after about 30 seconds.

there's bits I like about it, i think her left eye (light side ) and the nose has some potential.

Will take me a while till I'm somewhere comfortable with this way of drawing, never really done it. I think I should investigate how to do some hair! Will take me a bit to get used to these brush pens I just purchased as well, never used them either. I can get tonal now though, got 5 shades of grey!

the fire engine is class btw.

I can't be arsed any more. And I've lost my place on the prompt list (not that I was sticking to it too closely anyway. Kind of tempted to do a Sin City doodle or Ninja Scroll but I've just gotten broadband back to full steam after a weekend of severly strangled usage and I've got about 30 youtube vids to watch. Decisions decisions

ta, happy enough with it, think I could have made the middle body a bit more 3 dimensional though. Could really do with colour too i think, but that'll wait, I've already spent about 45 quid on pens and paper! 😆

liking the quickness of these brush pens, starting to understand them a little.

I just went into the art store in town, Cass Art it's called, got a set of 6 Copic Ciao they are called, 5 tones from black to very light grey(double tipped, brush one side, thick/thin angled marker on the other side), plus another 0.3 pigment liner(I bought a range of staedler pigment liners for a tenner firstly (0.05 to 1.0).). Which is just as well, I'm a bit heavy handed and break those easy enough, think I'm better going a bit larger to 0.5/0.7 on the pens, and just making the drawings a bit larger..

Probably paid over the odds for them in there mind you were £21, would probably get them cheaper online no doubt.

I think I want a set of 20/30 brush colours now, plus a smaller set of brush pens too in all the greys for finer detail. I'm learning what I like.

I checked my local art supply place but they didn't have any. I think I'm just looking for something novel. They do look nice to use though. There's a guy on instagram kimjong ungis or something and he's incredible with them.

Tried to do two marv's there. Complete shite. 3rd time lucky gonna go fast and loose and try not to over work it.

They are difficult to use, but it's just a matter of getting used to them, the ability to vary line thickness is very good though, learning to control that is alot of fun! 🙂

There seems to be a ton of different prompt lists out there so if the "official" one doesn't suit you try checking out some of those.

Yeah just use another prompt list if one doesn't suit.

Like the pixie.

Here is mine for today:
