had a left side open repair a few months ago which still bothers me but i can live with it.
10 days ago had a right side laparoscopic repair. first few days were fine, i even managed 2 zwift rides, but ive been suffering with debilitating burning sensations in my thigh, i assume caused by nerve involvement, and since yesterday the repair site itself has been painful, feels like a constant kick in the nuts, usually when trying to walk.
just wondering what other peoples experience of laparoscopic repair has been. did it get worse before getting better? kicking myself for ever going ahead with this at the moment.
this is particularly depressing as i got a new bike a couple of days before i had the op which is sat there looking at me!
In the pre procedure consultation, did they discuss the possibility of adhesions as a possible risk of surgery?
Basically, bits that used to move relative to each other, are now sticking in places because they were cut through.
Obviously, I'm not a doctor, I'm just relaying my experience.
no the surgeon just said laparoscopic, in exactly the same way the the first surgeon just said 'open repair'
i lived with the first one unrepaired for most of last year, it didnt really bother me. the repair on both sides bother me more than the actual hernias did.
just got the 'less than 1% have long term issues talk'.
it may all settle down its just that my experience from open is vastly different from what i thought would be a faster and less painful recovery from laparoscopic
Jesus wept!
I had keyhole for mine and was off work for 6 weeks before gradually easing in, climbing ladders was out the question for another 2. Do yourself a favour and take it easy before you tear it apart, your consulatant should have told you all this!
haha hate sitting around and not getting out but you are probably right. i kind assumed it would be even quicker this time around
Two weeks ago I had Laparoscopic double hernia surgery.
Touch wood I'm doing alright.I was told not to drive my car for 14 days & not to ride my bike even on the turbo for 28 days. It's frustrating,I was walking the day after the operation, the hospital's a couple of miles away & I've walked home both times I've had the dressing changed.I'm sure I could do a ride on the road bike & certainly spin it on the Turbo but I'm sticking to the surgeons advice. I'm signed off for another week but my job involves heavy lifting so I'm asking to stay off for at least 1 or 2 weeks more.
Two things I noticed after the operation,
1) I keep making daft, uncharacteristic mistakes,I left my mobile in the Taxi that took me to the hospital last week & on another occasion I left my dressings round at my mates house, just forgot absentminded.
2) After the operation,Until yesterday I couldn't fasten the top button on my trousers I presume you had similar so how did you manage to ride the bike properly?
i guess the mistakes are down to the drugs having not worn off and/or just focusing on moving around and not much else.
ive had no issues getting dressed etc, for the most part it has been fine with the exception of the burning pain which comes on now and again and is completely debilitating. sitting on the turbo and pedaling was no problem at all.
i didnt have the burning sensation last time and it just doesnt feel like 'normal' injury pain, obviously nerves which is a concern in case it doesnt sort itself out
This morning I've had the dressing changed everything's fine. The nurse said if the wound was infected one of the symptoms would be a burning sensation,do you think your pain might be infection?
dont think so. i didnt have my dressings changed they just said remove them after a week which i did and all looks fine.
i suppose if its infection it will eventually resolve itself.
the burning is a long way from the actual repair site though.
thanks for asking though!
