I finally got around to reading [i]Infinite Jest[/i] earlier this year. Amazing book... even with all those fugging footnotes.
One of the few books I find utterly indigestible, IJ. Some of his shorter stuff is good, so long as tennis isn't mentioned, but it's [i]Oblivion [/i]/ [i]Interviews with...[/i] / [i]Pale King[/i] he should be remembered for IMO.

I thought so, too - initially... and by the end, I was an emotional wreck (in a good way).
Agreed: his non-fiction/short-story stuff is great, if sometimes uncomfortable. Haven't read [i]The Pale King[/i], though.
