I saw a YT video where someone was using a round-bottomed (sp?) wok-shaped hob.

A wait, what?

Instead of a flat induction hob, this is a round-bottomed induction hob, shaped to take a wok.

It turns out you can get freestanding ones for not very much money from Aliexpress.

It is really quite outstanding.

I had been using the biggest gas burner on my rangemaster for stir fry but it just does not compare even slightly.

This thing gets smoking hot in just a few seconds (far faster than the gas hob). And then turn it down just as fast.

You have to be quite careful - the first time I used it I ended up setting all the smoke alarms in the house off, and had to breathe very carefully for the next few hours (I'm fine now). Our dog is now very cautious about coming into the kitchen. We had to bribe him with steak yesterday.

It came with instructions in Chinese so I have no idea what they say. On the other hand, most UK products have instruction manuals written in 6 point text that I also can't read, so it's not really any different.

Bora used to, may still, do these as well.

Had a look when we were getting our kitchen done, the hob was prohibitively expensive!
