Trying to work out how worried I should be about this (as an occasional visitor to India) and can’t decide between “very” and “not at all”.
All depends on if they start lobbing "buckets of sunshine" at each other.
If reports of Indian jets being shot down are true, then I would start to be very concerned. I think India has an election coming up and Khan has recently been elected in ****stan. Neither want to lose face to the general population.
Hopefully clear heads will prevail.
It could very easily turn into a big conventional war - with India trying to smack ****stan hard whilst holding off the Chinese. India has been getting too self confident and bellicose recently, worryingly so.
The issue is then, the ****stanis may well be tempted to use their buckets on sunshine - depending on how secure they are and whether any proper lunatics get any kind of power.
On the frequent travel front, do you travel to (our fly over) Kashmir? It looks to be shaping up to becoming the fourth India v. ****stan war, and since you mention cricket, if I had tickets for the match, I think I’d be selling them on, as I’d see a real risk of it not occurring, due to a BCCI ruling.
I blame social media.
Indians and ****stanis are some of the most nationalist people I have ever met, I suspect it will be pride before wisdom here and there will be a little argy-bargy before everything settles down to the status quo again.
Dont be surprised if China does'nt use this as an excuse to take a little more Kashmiri land.
Don't be worried at all. Skirmishes will remain constrained to the localised region, its not new, been going on for decades, will continue to go on until a proper solution has been found. They're certainly not going to start throwing nukes around. The biggest threat for India is not ****stan, it's China and their land grabbing in the North East...things are getting proper tense up that way.
India report that one of their fighters was shot down in a dogfight.
That's a bit old school. 😀
I wonder if the geography allows the aircraft to get up close and personal - without it turning into a long range missile slinging contest.
PAF F-16 shot down by the IAF MIG-21 which was then shot down. PA had to rescue the IAF pilot from civilians who were thrashing him by dispersing the crowd by firing in the air. This is going to get very messy, especially if China step in......
MIG 21 has some very good ECM apparently, maybe the reason it got down to a dog fight.
I'm going to avoid my local ****stani restaurant until this settles down; don't like the idea of a Hindustan rocket coming in the window while I'm munching my poppadums.
Is there any chance ****stan could just target the Indian call centres?
^ I’m now parsing your userID as glo-balti...
F16 being shot down by a Mig21? Wow. That says a lot for the quality of the pilots on both sides as an F16 should be crappign all over a fighter that was state of the art in Vietnam
Have been doing some more reading, R-73 missile is very good and the four F-16s were loaded for mud (making them less manoeuvrable) when they got bounced by two Mig 21's. F-16s dropped ordnance but not before one was downed and then AAA got one of the Migs, his wingman came back trying to locate him when the remaining F-16s regrouped so had to leave in a hurry.
This is coming from military forums I follow so the story may change as more info leaks out
