My sennheisers have given up the ghost. Think they were these ones

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Earphones-Sennheiser-CX-300-II-Headphone-MP3-Player-/160652805103?pt=UK_AudioVisualElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Headphones&hash=item2567a743ef

Prepared to spend a bit more this time, if I'm going to get better quality sound, better build quality, better fit (found them a little too small, even with the biggest things in, maybe I have caves for ears..), etc.

Recommendations? Around £30 is my limit (probably).

I've got a set of skullcandy titans and they're not bad for £25ish quid, they seal out any external noise pretty effectively so you don't need to listen to your music at stupid volumes to hear it over a bus engine. I've never owned a set of cx-300's so I don't know how the titans compare to them but I was looking at getting some a couple of weeks ago but went for the titans instead because there seemed to be a lot of fake cx-300's online. The only bad thing I would say about the titans is that when something touches the wire, like your clothes rubbing against it, the noise is noticable over the top of your music.

Hello, If I were I would stick with the 300's they always seem to come out on top of any review that I have read (see T3 or Stuff magazine websites). If you can stretch a little more money I would highly recommend the Klipsch s4's and if you are using them with a Iphone there is a specific model that will allow you to control the voice control. they are also not very good at not creating sound through touching the cable (it think it is micro-scopic??). or splash right out and get something from Ultimate ears or Shure, very very comfortable with a huge range of ear bits.

My top advice to you would be is to not buy anything from ebay unless you are sure that they are the real deal... I know so many people that have paid for counter-fit carp.

Skull candy from T K Max, as recommended by the bloke who works in my Co-op with the dreadlocks. About £10.

I have CX-300's that initially i was very impressed with. They are good on speech (like podcasts) but on music with any kind of base they are incredibly crunchy and almost impossible to listen to. I suspect they may be broken in which case they have lasted less than 12 months.

Klipsch s3's are over half price on amazon.£18 instead of £40. Good reviews of them, getting a pair in a few weeks

Got some cx 300 they are ok but for the music I like (heavy rock) they distort a bit and sound kind of muffled.
Got a pair of ultimate ears which are the shizmit, three times the price of the sennheisers though. Have you looked at sure in earphones they are good too.I got them from eBay for the same money as the sennheisers but much better phones IMO. Had a pair of those before one of the kids chewed them to bits And then bought the ultimate ears.

Sadly most cx300's seem to be counterfeit nowadays. I know - my originals vs my ebay ones were chalk and cheese.

I'd go here: http://www.headphonereviews.org/recommendations.php

This is a heavily moderated review site: when you or I review something a mod automatically challenges your review and asks about what you compare stuff to, justify etc etc. Overall - this is a really good start point.

I got some shures's and ultimate ears based on these reviews, along with some sennheisers for the home and a valve headphone amp. Sad - in one way I guess. But thats how I get to listen to music nowadays.

Depending on whats wrong with those sennheisers you might try running them under a hot tap.
Someone here gave me that tip years ago, and i'm still using them now.

The right ear went out, then the left a day later. I can still get a bit of sound through the left if I fiddle with the wire, pushing it this way and that.

Run which bit under hot water..?

Cheers CSW.

Run the ear bud under the hot tap for a bit, then dab dry with kitchen roll, worked a treat for me, and you have nothing to lose but your wax 🙂
Good luck

No worries.

You've prompted me to check the reviews and prices on what I've bought over the years - christ prices have gone up even more than mountain bike stuff! It's insane! I can probably sell my used stuff for what I bought them for 🙂

#Edit - I forgot to mention: for the Edinburgh locals - one of the best headphone suppliers I've had the pleasure or coming across works from Ocean Terminal (and ebay), called Advanced MP3 (they carry buds for old phones that they sold you etc). And no - they are nothing to do with me.

I'm using Ultimate Ears 400vi. The comply foam ear buds block external noise really well. The phone controls are handy & they've survived a trip through the washing machine.
