Everybody knows about the awful things that happen everyday in the world. But it's impossible to emphasize with all of it, you'd be totally overwhelmed. But I think it's fine to be sad over things that compared to some of the world's horrors are seemingly trivial. It's sadness on a managble scale, somehow therapeutic.

I do think there are lots of sad things involving humans too, which are worthy of consideration, but I don’t think that makes this story any less sad tbh. In fact it is probably because we anthropomorphise (is that the right word?) that people feel really bad about it...

From what I can see most remainers are basically thinking about the economic impact on them, rather than any other principles.
the way I see it is if we hadn't have had free movement then peoples attitudes towards taking refugees would have been a lot better.
I am also uncomfortable with the fact the immigration to the UK is easy for europeans but difficult and expensive for anyone else.
And then you can get on to the neo-liberal arguments and say free-movement is bad for the working classes...

I would guess because you are not knowingly going to make people worse off, deprive them of some rights (freedom of movement), lowering of workers rights in future etc,.
By happily taking that away means in some part you don't GAF about the impact to others.

I really don't think that people's attitudes towards taking "economic migrants" would have been any better. The reality of the situation doesn't affect people's opinions, it's what the shouty bloke down the pub and the papers (red top, naturally) say.

As a remoaner, I don't think I'm allowed to care about animals wot are forruns. Probably trying to come over here and steal our jobs and benefits, simultaneously.
In reality I think it's very upsetting, and I don't think our upset at this kind of thing is due to antropomorphising animals, they clearly have very real emotions and bonds with each other, too.

Some people are of the opinion that humans are responsible for all the worlds miseries, so nobody is worthy of consideration when tragedy befalls any of us.
Animals are the original innocents so its ok to feel sorry for them.
