My other half has a Japanese imported car, A Nissan Cube.
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for companies that will insure imported cars?
She just got a renewal letter from the current one (Mark Richard insurance) for £450 which seems a bit strong to me for a little go-cart car.
For my past Jap imports I've used Adrian Flux, A-Plan (Thatcham branch specifically), Sky Insurance and a company called Competition Car Insurance although I'm not sure if they've changed names. Always been able to get a reasonable quote from them all.
Currently getting the best prices from Admiral and Esure - not import this time but still a performance car - maybe I've just aged into their cheaper policies 👴🏽
Nobody cared when I had an import.
I ticked the "it's an import" box, and had several conversations with insurance companies (which I made damn sure to keep a record of... yes, it's registered as a 2 litre Subaru (as that's the nearest thing on the DVLA's list as far as I could tell), but it's also got a bloomin' great turbo on the side of it!
So my 260bhp Legacy was almost certainly charged as a 120-ish bog standard one. Cheap as chips.
It was never a problem, but always there at the back of my mind that they would suddenly start caring if I smashed it into someone/thing, and that was a small part in deciding to sell it on.

Proprietary parts are a PITA when fixing after an accident.
Yeah, I can appreciate that.
My understanding was that apart from bodywork, it's a Micra?
Shop around, but insurance has jumped recently. Wife's Qashqai that's 10 years old has jumped to about £450
Try 2gether insurance. Had good prices from them on JDM imports for years.
Admiral have been good for me, but worth calling rather than trying to quote online - I was put through to someone who could do more than look it up from their list on the computer. They even did the cover for my Stepwgn on the chassis number when it first arrived and didn't have a reg number yet.
The usual ones recommended on the Stepwgn group are Adrian Flux, Greenlight, Japcover (who are Mark Richards), LV, Lifesure.
Insurance has got more expensive, apparently 16% up on average in the last year - everything from power to paint has gone up.
Brentacre - they're dead good to deal with and were cheapest when I was shopping around. Was with them for years and stupidly switched to A-Plan when I had a modified Mini through them... will be moving back to Brentacre next month.
Adrian Flux
Sky
Competition Car Insurance
Greenlight
A Plan
Need2Insure
And there will be more I remember that I'll add!
N2I have been best for me recently, quotes from Sky seem no longer competitive unfortunately. (42, heavily modified JDM import, small village, garaged)
I bloody love Cubes, there are bits from Micras but things like bodywork, glass, interior etc can be a right pain in the arse AFAIK.
Cheers all.
Plenty to try there 🙂👍

Traditionally, the first bit of damage done to a car in any collision/accident is to... the outside shiny bits.
Global supply issues, import times, courtesy car not available due to "waiting for parts" exclusion. That means unhappy customers who won't renew. So prices go up. Might not be entirely correct, but I bet I'm not far out.
Adrian Flux, A-Plan (Thatcham branch specifically) for all my weird and wondafuls
Churchill have always been fine with my 2 (though they are pretty common imports).
Insurance seems really expensive this year though? I thought my renewal was taking the piss but I can barely beat it elsewhere
