You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi All,
I have just recently purchased some SRAM drivetrain bits through Ebay.
They have been shipped from US and the current shipping information states they are with UK customs, will i have to pay any ta, and has anyone any idea on the cost of this if so?
I paid just under £800 for new items including shipping.
Any help would be appreciated as the govenrment website confuses me!

Hope you've at least estimated the tax when you ordered
An official importer will have to pay duty and taxes before being able to bring product into the country. I imagine that the USA was attractive because it was significantly cheaper than the UK.
UK customs will look at it and decide if you have to pay tax and duty and then charge you. There might be a little extra charge just to help you remember that you've been a little naughty for evading taxes.
Or, you might get away with it.
Lottery, innit?
You got the 20% vAT for a start, thats guaranteed but you probably already knew about that. The only other thing I get charged is a handled fee which was only about £8 so you should be fine
Well, looks like the ebay transaction what seemed to be an absolute bargain has turned into just a little saving.... XX1 Groupset will stand me about £960 with taxes, still ok i suppose.
Just want to fit my new shiny bits and get out to try them... Going to have to wait for someone to send me a bill for the taxes before they release now! Bah!
Thanks for your help all, oh and the tax calculator (iota180) is a good tool for next time.
