So just been diagnosed with Impaired Glucose Tolerance. Seems this develops into diabetes for around 50% of people. Anyone on here living with this? Bit scary in a way.
What are the symptoms? (If you don't mind me asking).
- frequent urination
- constant thirst
- always being tired
- blurred vision
- cuts and bruises that are slow to heal
- frequent infections
- tingling or numbness in your hands or feet
I've experienced about half of these (blurred vision, peeing more and tingling hands)
Had all those before being diagnosed with Type 1 some 25yrs ago; it isn't the end of the world - there's plenty of us here.
I've never heard of 'impaired glucose intolerance'. Oh, weight loss too besides all the symptoms above - I lost 1.5st in a week or so.
Same as househusband for me. Have you had your HbA1c tested?
Sorry tomhoward don’t know what test that is. Is it liver function?
No, glycolated haemoglobin. Basically it’s a measure of the glucose attaching to your red blood cells and thus blood sugar control over the previous 3 months, sub 42mmol is normal, 42-48 is ‘pre diabetic’ more than that is diabetic.
Yes I believe so. I was out and about when the Dr called and was unable to jot down all the information.
Reduce your carb intake, especially the heavy starchy ones.
No pasta, potato, bread, porridge etc.
Eat Low GI fruit, strawberries and stuff.
You will feel a lot better and lose weight.
As above, I got all those symptoms before being diagnosed type 1, as well as the weight loss.
I'm on the naughty step (T2)
Mostly I've stopped eating multiple bars of chocolate at work
Thanks good advice..
