TLDR.

I need to migrate my linux based email server (SME server) to that there Mythic Beasts hosting.

What tools have you used for migrations for this?

imapsync has been suggested but it's €60, which goes against my principles as a tightwad.

All the helps please...pretty please.

Set up both accounts in Mozilla Thunderbird. Then copy and paste the messages and folders from one account to the other.

Yep, that'd be my first suggestion.

I think imapsync is open source, but you pay for a prebuilt binary and support.

If your folders are in Maildir format and you have access to them it may be possible to just copy the files across.

If you're not too fussy I'd look at just copying the mailbox file(s) over.

If you have a bunch of busy mailboxes and/or you want something a bit more seamless, I've handled client email migrations across servers using fetchmail in the past. I set it to fetch new mail and stick it in the users mailbox, set up as a cron job every five minutes or so. Then change your domain MX records when it suits, and you'll end up with with all your emails in the new mailbox with no oddness due to DNS propagation etc. (which could otherwise leave new messages orphaned on your old server)

imapsync may do the same thing, I haven't had to deal with that stuff in some time.

imapsync is open source, the $60 is a 'suggested donation'. Alternatives includes offlineimap and mbsync, but imapsync does look easier for simple setups.

Cheers all, excellent idea CraigW all worked well.

Can recommend Mythic Beasts, small hiccup was resolved by email promptly. Nicely laid out control panel to, and I've seen some shockers.

Nice.
