My S9 has finally thrown it's hand in, front and back cracked, battery knackered, doing funny things when I try to open apps.

Not fussed about high-end flagships any more so what's out there for under £300. Quite liked the idea of a Honor but the handbags between Huawei/Google means that's pretty pointless. Wouldn't mind a reasonable camera and NFC but apart from that...

Tried Googling but there are so many paid/faked review sites that they mean nothing any more as far as I can tell.

Moto G8 Plus.

Do NOT buy from the Motorola/Lenovo site, however.

Here would do - https://www.johnlewis.com/motorola-g8-plus-smartphone-android-6-2-inch-4g-lte-sim-free-64gb/p4803508

Pixel 3a was available recently for £279. Hard to beat at that price...

https://store.google.com/gb/product/pixel_3a

I'd get one myself but I'm holding out for the new one...the 4a.

I bought a brand new S8 for £230 sim free last year - couldn't justify spending more.

I got a dirt-cheap Blackview BV5500 phone which is a ruggedised phone. I forget how much it was but prob less than £150. Yes, it looks like a brick but my previous phones died due to water damage so went with something robust and cheap. One Nokia phone was in the inner pocket of my Gortex MTB jacket but was caught in a squall of the heaviest rain I've seen outside of West Africa. My shoes literally filled with water and everything got wet.

Whatever Sony currently hits your budget. Should be able to get an XZ2 for well under 300.

Having said that, I'd probably honestly go for that Pixel 3a myself if I was in the market.

After a couple of Motorola G series used in the house, they really seem worth the pennies.
The G8 power is on the list for when my current G5 gives up (which it is refusing to do).

If you stuck to Samsung but got an A71 to replace the S9 then you'd find that's a great mid range phone. Bit over budget however. Failing that a pixel 3a would be a good option.

Thought I'd pop back and say thanks for the ideas. Phone totally shat the bed the evening of my post, but not before I snagged a Realme 6 on Amazon. So far it seems an excellent replacement and certainly worth the £200 it cost.
Cheers.

Loving my Nokia’s just now. 7.1 for work and 7.2 for home, would recommend both.
