The 15+ year old 'temporary' plastic Addis has finally given up.

Ideally something a touch more stylish and with one large (60lt+) container for big black bag and two recycling containers maybe 25lt+.

As I'm unable to take mrs_oab to the shops to prevaricate and flaff over Brabantia's, what have you got that would fit the bill?

We have a Brabantia. Split between bagged bin for rubbish and green for recycling.

The bin latch has broken three times. Brabantia have warrantied it excellently within days every time.

It was £40 from the John Lewis returns section. Money well spent!

Just get a 50L Addis and some cheap IKEA bags for your recycling

Had a Brabantia for 5 yrs and it was good. Then we got a Joseph and Joseph https://www.amazon.co.uk/Joseph-Intelligent-Totem-Stainless-Graphite/dp/B00U0XAOOE in a sale and it is the absolute nuts. Overpriced as all JJ kit is, but with a sizeable trash section plus composter and dual recycler it’s bloody practical.

I got a Simplehuman brushed ali thing from JL. Maybe £60-80 I can’t remember but worth it as it works well and still looks decent. I can’t think of another household object that you use as often so worth going half decent and I’m by no means a kitchen gadget type and the my small kitchen is probably the size of the average STW en suite!

Don't get the IKEA flip top bin I bought, as I was too tight to pay for a posh bin when our cheap Addis bin died. The hinge sticks out the back and the lid is convex. So when you open it the lid smashes into the wall and takes the paint off, pile of shit. To avoid the issue the bin needs to be about half a foot away from the wall, which isn't going to happen.

Saying that all the Brabantia and simply human bins do seem massively overpriced.

Murphy Richards 50l with sensor, pops open when you are in front of it, a gimmick thought I, but it's brilliant.

Not touching the bin is very much a good thing, when hands are covered in whatever.

Recycling boxes live under boiler in pantry, one for paper, one for plastic.

We've got one of the push top IKEA black cuboid ones and it's perfectly good.

First choice would be a Brabantia pedal one. If you can get one for under 50 quid then you'll have no regrets. Cheap bins are a pain. Super expensive ones don't give you anything more.

Simple Human.

Makes the job of changing the bag much more pleasant.

The bags aren't cheap but they never tear.

Don't get the Argos stainless twin jobby we have, it's handles tear the bags when you take them out as they ends are bent inwards in the caddy, and if you don't use bags the handles grab the waste as its coming out. The lids hit the wall when you use the pedal but you can't open it without using the pedal.

It is an infuriating object of hate.

We’ve got a simple human double sided one, for recycling and general waste. Honestly bought it on a bit of a whim as it was cheap in TKMaxx (sorry, I shouldn’t admit to shop there!).
I can honestly say the bin bags are phenomenal, as mentioned it is impossible to tear them.
As it goes, buy cheap buy twice. Even applies the bins..

As I’m unable to take mrs_oab to the shops to prevaricate and flaff over Brabantia’s, what have you got that would fit the bill?

You just have to do the lockdown equivalent, open Argos, Dunelm, Wilko, John Lewis if you're feeling flush enough for the fancy options above and sit down together for a couple of hours of looks, costs, but it's only a ××××××× bun arguments.

To add authenticity make yourselves a bad cup of coffee in a paper cup and burn a tenner from your wallet.

On the plus side it saves the fuel into town.

Oh and our bin is a shiny steel Argos brabantia copy. Works fine, doesn't tear the bags but only 30 litres not a super duper rubbish centre:-)

Another simplehuman vote here. Good bit of manufacture but use the proper bags, they’re expensive but fit properly and don’t rip. We were always a carrier bag under the sink household until it’s arrival.

I thought what we spent on our simplehuman bin several years ago was bonkers at the time but I don’t regret a penny of it now. Perfectly fitting, high quality bin liners are brilliant.

The Brabantia warranty is fabulous. Worth the money as my touch top bin is now over 10 years old. Broken catch (ham fisted kids) replaced with no quibble/receipt.

To follow up my Simplehuman vote. I forgot about the bags. Yes they are good but quite pricey so I did’nt buy more than one pack.

Brabantia- the Hope Tech of bin tech? (busy warranty dept)😂
