Out on the bike today & for the 3rd time in the last 12 months or so I’ve found an Amazon package on the grass verge in the middle of nowhere. 1st & 2nd ones were unopened, todays was opened but empty.
I personally delivered the 1st 2 & the recipients were shocked when told where I’d found them. These were all in the same kind of area, (North West of York) so I’m wondering what the the local Amazon guy(s) are up to?
Ok, todays may have been delivered & the recipient chucked the packaging out the window but I found it 16 miles from the address, which is fairly close to the addresses on the other two.
Should I be even arsed about it? WWSTD if anything? Is this normal? Why am I even bothered, they weren’t mine.

It's because you're a good bloke and stuff like this gets marked up in St Peters big book. For sure you're destined for the VI{P area 😉

You can only do what you can do. I am still getting bank statements here where the account holder has never lived. For a while I scrawled "NOt At THis Address" on them and stuck them back in the post box. I contacted the bank. They still come though less frequently. I just bin them now.

If they aren't bothered about customer security why should I be? I would have thought a bank would be interested in having correct customer addresses.

We have lived in our house for 6 years, the previous owner went into a home. We have had his post delivered here since we moved in.
This includes all the bank statements, all his pension info from various pensions, his investments and dividend cheques. His son (a lawyer of someone sort) had done nothing to sort any of this. For all I know, the his dad is long gone by now, we’re still getting his post though. If I knew someone with a matching surname, I’m sure we could have done quite nicely! ££

Sounds very dodgy, at the very least there's a misplacement of packages going on when transfering some parcels to a different delivery vehicle. Tell Amazon?

One day it could be your unopened parcels in the sticks, leaving you at least in a temporary fix.

My money is on them having been delivered then half inched to be honest. Much more likely is some pillock making life a bit more difficult for others just for kicks than the drivers consistently trying to get themselves fired IMO.

I still get bank mail addressed to my late partner, despite my having notified them when she died, and then her daughter dealing with all of her mum’s finances, and me having crossed her details out on the letters and written ‘RTS. Deceased, please remove details from database’ across the envelope, along with PTO and the return address on the back highlighted.

Having worked for a mailing house, and been involved with updating mailing databases for thirty to forty national and local charities, it’s really not too difficult, and a bank only has to deal with its own customers, so how hard can it be?

Re: the OP’s parcels, it could be doorstep theft, and the packaging dumped on their way back from having tailed the van.

Contact Amazon and let them know...they'll ask for details on the address label and where it was found.

Used to regularly find empty Amazon boxes stuffed into hedges in remote places across Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey - my moneys on delivery drivers helping themselves as there were multiple addresses a long way from intended recipients. Took photos of labels and sent them to Amazon.

As a part-time postie on the island about 80% of what we deliver is Amazon - I’ve left step on doorsteps or boxes by gates and it’ll still be there days later - main problem is stuff getting blown away by the wind or soaked in the rain.

But why would someone nick a package off a doorstep/wherever then take it miles away & chuck it without opening it?

Realistically all you can do to help is take a photo of the parcels in situ, together with something that gives Amazon some evidential location reference, then advise them of it happening.

Can’t imagine it’s the delivery drivers dumping stuff. The app they use won’t let you mark as delivered unless you are within the geotag location. They also get a concession against them for every customer complaint.

May well be they left the parcel outside at the delivery address and it’s been nicked.

Either that or it’s people discarding the packaging not giving a toss.

On this point I'd suggest you make a formal complaint for attention of their data protection officer. The DPA requires that organisation keep personal data up to date and accurate for the purposes it's to be used for. If they are failing to take steps to implement this then they are not fulfilling this requirement and their DPO should be accountable for that. You can then escalate to the ICO if they still don't act on your update.

My organisation gets various feeds (royal mail returns, national House moving info, death registers etc) that are used to keep data up to date, as well as direct contact from individuals.

If you read my OP, the 1st two were unopened & dumped. Sealed, intact, chucked in the grass verge. Yesterdays was opened, empty but 16 miles by road from the address, all 3 in close proximity.

Do you do returns?

Depends how far you are away by bike. 😜

I've recently been doing change of address notification for my Mum, as she's gone into a care home. Even with a power of attorney, there are some cases where it has been very difficult to persuade people to accept notice from me, not her (which she's not capable of now). So if there was no PoA in place before loss of capacity, I can understand how mail would never get diverted.

The parcels are covered with Novichok I reckon.

I recommend no-one touches esselgruntfuttock's knob.

His door knob obviously.
