or any one of those other 1980s movies.

I've got a 12 year old son, whose friend just came by on his BMX to call on him, and the two have just ridden off for the day, backpacks on their backs, hopping kerbs, and heading to the river to skip stones and whatever else they may think of doing (lewd suggestions unnecessary).

I'm pretty pleased that we live in a place where the kids can play in a way that I recognise from my own childhood.

We all live in the kinds of places our kids can play like we played, you just need to get rid of that 820p HD lie machine hanging on the wall, and quit all tabloid press.

Indeed, ulysse, and I don't have one of the machines you describe, nor do I look at tabloids; society has, however, moved in a direction that does not easily foster physical play and imagination, and I am just glad that I have kids who (partly because of our family lifestyle, partly because they have made good friends, and partly because or where we live) have the inclination and wherewithal to make their own adventures.

🙂 Brilliant

Make sure they aren't going down the arcade.

Also make extra sure to check for aliens when they get back, and don't be worried if one disappears - he'll be back in about 20 years in a spaceship.

We all live in the kinds of places our kids can play like we played

Well, not always. A lot of side streets have many more cars now which make playing football or cricket in the road more difficult.

I would love to turf my kids out, but at the moment they are too young to be allowed to go far, and in the local area if the other kids aren't out there's not that much to do. In a couple of years I'll let them into the woods I think and up to the park which will help a lot.

True, regarding the extra cars, that's a real danger that we never had to contend with

Pretty good, apparently. BMX well-used, and t-shirt sufficiently filthy. Now to finish it all off, he and his siblings are about to sit down to Dungeons and Dragons.

Seriously.

The reality is nothing has changed kids play just the same, we had TVs, video games, tabloids and computers. It's just people believe the media that kids don't play out anymore.

I wish I lived on the set of the Goonies.

I've been trying to convince my wife that she should take Mouth and go in search of the treasure of One Eyed Willy.

She's having none of it. 😥
