Call it a flounce if you will, but on this note I leave. I know there have been minor arguments about the mods and adverts and the For Sale rules and any number of issues, but without wishing to capitalise on misery and suffering, moral failure has crossed a line recently.

The huge support for bruders has been entirely appropriate and reflected the strong community which supports each other in here. However, one of the threads asked for STW to do something, set up a charity collection for example, so we could so something constructive. But chipps and i suppose STW in the wider sense, felt that 'they were not set up to do that' however, the OP was invited to do so themselves. If an individual could do it so could STW, or some individual there. The one centre of the forum whom everyone trusted, at least financially was in a position to act, and failed to do so. Poor show, guys, poor show. Don't tell me how you can't do it, tell me how you can.

For that moral failure, I leave.

why didnt you set up a charity then?

a little unfair on STW to be expected to set up a charity for every person who loses somebody, there's quite a few forum members ya know.

Is there an award for the most trivial reason for flouncing?

I agree with the OP. As such, let's all have a whip round to get the OP a taxi.

you've only been here a few months...don't worry, the anger will pass and soon you will feel comfortable in your new surroundings.

What winter tyres for someone on their way out?

+1
Amazing though this may seem, the forum is run free of charge as an add on to the magazine. That's what the staff do - they write a magazine. They don't sit around waiting for forum members to suffer personal tragedy so they can set up a bereavement fund for them.

You're right, there's a fantastic community spirit on here and look what Luke (munrobiker) did for his friend Chris Ball, killed in the Glencoe avalanche last week:
http://singletrackmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/chris-bell-racing-at-strathpuffer/

That didn't need involvement from the STW staff. Just the wider forum community and one person saying "we're going to do this"

Same with this: you're upset, you want to do something for bruders - go over to justgiving and set up a fund for him.

I think the thread the OP is referring to is this one.

Summary:

A couple of people suggest setting up a charity donation page, but no-one can be arsed to actually put in any effort, and instead expect the magazine to do it for them.

Chipps replies, "I don't think we're organised to set up a charity account for a third party." Which seems reasonable enough to me.

OP throws toys out of pram. Other forum members count the number of shits they give, which doesn't take long.

Meanwhile, I wonder idly if anyone has asked Bruders how he feels about someone setting up a charity collection in his name.

there was a suggestion on a thread that bearnecessities started that Singletrack set up and administer a justgiving account.

Chipps, quite gently, said he didn't see that as their role.

OP has taken exception.

If you feel that bad about it stick your hand in your pocket and donate to infant cot death charity(there must be one)/ gt ormond st etc and carry on as before. TBH Can't see the point in all the public handwringing over setting up a donation thingy or not on a cycling forum.

So, he wanted to set up a charity based on people on here, for someone who had JUST LOST HIS SON.

Perhaps, whilst he's away, he'll be having a word with himself.

Er, that link to http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/dealing-with-a-liar
What's that all about and why was it locked ?
I have a feeling there's some in joke or innuendo that has completely passed me by.
Could someone explain it before this one gets locked too.

Having looked through the other threads and seeing what this is actually about, any disagreements seem to be in bad taste. Best left for another time, and perhaps in private, I would've thought.

People will pay their respects as they will.

Easily upset.... if that's not a flounce I'd love to know what is!
I suspect that any chance he might change his mind has now evaporated.

On the other hand my conceptions about the forum have been completely turned around in the last week as a result of the response to what happened to my friend Chris last week.

Forum members, both well off and not, have donated whatever they could afford. The owners of the site have made my thread a sticky, and posted TWICE on their front page, for no cost, no advertising money in their magazine. They have done this, unpaid, in their work time which would be better spent putting a magazine together.

I asked for help, and STW came running. Bruders also asked for help, and STW came running. The difference was I asked for money and bruders asked for comfort and advice.

What Chipps says is correct- STW is not set up to raise money for charity, that's why just giving exists, and only Bruders has the right in the situation to set one up. If someone who didn't know Chris had set up a JG page in his name on my behalf I would have felt it a touch inappropriate.

Carry on all of you, you're part of a good thing (when we're not all in fighting about wheel sizes and stuff).
