Aw! Bless.
We were talking about him the other day, and why there's been no Blockbusters since... RIP Bob
The original James Bond and a childhood favourite.
Still not a bad age.
The original James Bond
Not quite, but nearly.
But RIP Bob, off to the Gold Run in the sky
The original James Bond
The name's J.
J. B.
RIP Bob
gonna go and listen to "Baker Street" now
What has Gerry Rafferty's Baker St. got to do with it?
He didn't play on Baker Street, nor was he the original James Bond. That was Barry Nelson in 1954.
The old myth ...
Stuart maconies finest hour.
And no. It was Raf Ravenscroft.
He didn't play on Baker Street
No, but the mental image of Bob Holness playing saxophone makes me smile everytime I hear that song so it's an urban legend (the best one ever invented IMO) I happily pass off as fact, just to spread the joy 😆
Barry Nelson didn't play on Baker Street silly. Oh wait.
Barry Nelson played 'Jimmy Bond' in some silly yankee adaptation telly crap. Holness played the 'real' James Bond on the radio a couple of years later.
fond memories of getting home from school to watch blockbusters! don't normally care if a celeb dies but this had affected me more than jade goody, diana and MJ put together
Re: the Baker Street urban legend,
After the myth had got around, a question about the song popped up on Blockbusters. After it was answered, Bob grins at the camera and goes "great saxophone solo on that record" (-:
if Wikipedia can be believed:
The story clearly appealed to Holness' sense of humour as he has often played along with the myth, and has also at various times jokingly claimed to be the lead guitarist on Derek and the Dominoes' "Layla" and the mysterious individual putting Elvis Presley off his stride on the famous 'laughing' version of "Are You Lonesome Tonight?"
Hilarious if true!!
Still not a bad age.
well it was for him.
Only said to the missus the other day they should bring Blockbusters back . . .
My Dad ended up in a nursing home and inevitably passed away there, so I know pretty much how family and friends must have felt through these past few years. Real shame it had to end this way for Bob . . .
RIP fella
I'll have an 'E' please Bob.
