Has anyone fitted a different worktops to an IKEA kitchen other than their own ones.
IKEA seem to use a 635mm deep worktop where as most other places are 620mm. (For example worktop express). Has anyone fitted a 620 one and is it ok?
From memory my ikea worktops in my old sat flush with the front of the units so 620 wouldn't work.
I put a 620 oak worktop on mine and fits fine. Its the older non-rail mounting cabinets. Not sure about the new ones but I'd be surprised if they were much different
From any base unit page:-
<h4 class="first-child">Assembled size</h4>
<div class="table">
<div class="table-row">
<div class="table-cell">Depth without suspension rail:</div>
<div class="table-cell">59.0 cm</div>
</div>
<div class="table-row">
<div class="table-cell">Depth with suspension rail:</div>
<div class="table-cell">60.0 cm</div>
</div>
<div class="table-row">
<div class="table-cell">Width:</div>
<div class="table-cell">60.0 cm</div>
</div>
<div class="table-row">
<div class="table-cell">System, depth:</div>
<div class="table-cell">60.0 cm</div>
</div>
<div class="table-row">
<div class="table-cell">Height:</div>
<div class="table-cell">80.0 cm</div>
</div>
</div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div></div>
<div>So depth 60cm inc rail - so really depends on the door thickness you'll be putting on as to whether you'll get any overhang over the door top.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Others like DIY kitchens have a 560 deep unit, so more worktop overhang with a 620 worktop.</div>
ah bollocks to the new STW.
Yep we got our oak ones from worktop express. No problem and overhangs by about an inch. However can't remember if the brother in law had to take them to the workshop to be trimmed down. He fitted them for me as that's what he does for a job.
Just measured ours- 628mm from wall including the (handleless) drawer fronts. Wouldn't recommend 620mm worktop.
I have Worktop Express worktops on our Ikea units, fits grand!
Im using 620mm oak tops on 580mm deep ikea carcasses with no problems. 10yrs old so no idea if dimensions have changed though
620mm will be fine if you have perfectly flat walls and an 18mm door.
It will allow no room for manuever though when you scribe the worktop in with 600m base depth, so if that’s not dead straight and you have to trim you’ll have a problem. I’ve got regular 560mm cabinets with 620 worktops and there’s definitely not 40mm clearance... you can pack the tops slightly proud of the walls and cover with upstand, but still it’s not much room.
Ok, cheers for the info all.
I went to store and had a look, then asked the guy and he said that 620 would sit absolutely flush with the door fronts so no room for error if your walls aren't dead straight. Ikeas are only 1.5cm wider though, so its a bit wierd. Dont think I'll risk it. Shame as for the same price as an IKEA laminated wood worktop I can get a solid oak worktop plus some Danish oil from worktop express.
Is it a big kitchen? You can get deeper worktops at WE and either rip it down to 640mm or mount the cabinets/rails onto a 3x2 attached to the wall. It creates a service void and you get plenty or worktop space, which is nice.
I bought secondhand granite for ours, then fab’d up an acrylic light bar as a spacer behind the upstand. On the front I sorted out a level Oak extension using a section of solid oak breakfast bar. All worktops done for 650 quid in oak and black granite. Seemed reasonable to me.
Get the 720 from worktop express and cut a bit off.
Fitted an IKEA kitchen in 2016. Used solid oak worktops. I wouldn't do it again. Require constant up keep. Especially around the sink area. Wish I'd gone with laminate now.
I've just fitted an Ikea kitchen. Metod cabinets with Savedal doors, solid oak worktops (which I imagine I'll regret sooner or later).
Anyway, here's a photo of an exposed end of cabinet... the cabinets are rail-mounted, and stick out 600mm including the rail. The doors add a further 20mm. The benchtop is nominally 635mm but were all 638-640mm (Mine have a few mm gap at the back to allow for any expansion, hence sticking out to 644ish.

So yes, 620mm worktops will likely be almost flush with Ikea cabinets.
Fitted Corian to ours. Cost more than all the units and appliances but it was the one "must have" item for me. Very pleased with the outcome.

Thanks for the replies and thank you willh for the picture. That was very helpful.
We had decided to go for the laminated wooden worktop,karlby, as it was a compromise on cost v looks but reviews online aren't favourable. I know the drawbacks of wooden worktops but I just prefer the look to laminate.
Also, there is no chance of modifying the units or whatever as our kitchen is very small.
