Thought I’d check the car tyre pressures today as I couldn’t remember when I last did. The PO had put shiny metal caps on it. I guess they are aluminium based as they had seized to the valve thread.
First 3 came off after some soaking & a bit of effort. The forth put up more resistance so I used a spanner on the cap. It started to move so a little bit more pressure and….. I sheared the valve off. So now I’ve got to fit the spare & get it fixed.
I was planning on giving the bike a clean before tomorrow’s ride, but I’ll either have no time or i dare not touch it.😡🤬
Just finished putting up brackets for a curtain pole , screws made of cheese ,3 piece brackets, 3 !!!!🙄 That's 2 hours of my life I'll never get back 😔
Did similar with work minibus. Thought I'd do the right thing and check the tyre pressures on garage forecourt. As the valve cap came off the valve core shot out never to be seen again. Then the mechanism for the spare was seized. Fortunately managed to find a new core in the end.
This brings back a faint memory. I've had alloy caps stuck on a valve before and I managed to crush a couple of them with mole grips. Just enough to break them and have them crumble away leaving the valve in tact.
This must have been 20 years ago. The car was probably a Volvo which did many, many skids.
Grrr- took the car to the tire place today, the valve hole doesn’t take a standard valve due to how it’s cut. So I’ll have to replace it with similar.
That reminds me....previous owner of my car put Seat branded alloy valve caps on.
I keep meaning to put a bit of coppaslip on them to stop them seizing....
My neighbour did this to a car with tyre pressure sensors in the valve, cost him about £150 to get one replaced.
He borrowed my Dremel and pad saw and very carefully cut the metal caps off the other 3 and replaced them with the plastic ones the car originally came with.
