avoid paying the agency fees to employ you. Might want to look for a lawyer while you're at it. 🙂

It wasn't an Agency we used it was an EU funded scheme that involved them doing the recruitment work and funding part of the salary, which they utterly failed to do.

Considering we were promised an active campaign across many universities which didn't happen plus they stopped answering the phone we felt we had no choice but to do the job properly ourselves.

To be clear, this was an EU funded quango designed to actively help recent graduates find work. Laudable aims, but ones that Calderdale Council (the referer) are currently investigating. The flow of money was from them to us. We were not paying an agency fee.

We have received no applications from the scheme although the single time I made contact with the quango following the original job ad I was told they had received 1 application. To date they have not forwarded that application on to us. If you are from Northern Ireland and you previously applied for this job then please get in touch.

...they stopped answering the phone...

It's really annoying when folks don't have the basic politeness to get back to you, innit?

Ah, fair enough then! I retract my earlier statement. 🙂

I'd suggest that such quango-recs, while worthy and laudable as you say, will tend to only really find the dregs of the candidate pool. The good ones will be at fee paying agencies, or as direct applications.

Good luck finding someone, though!

When you have just graduated or about to graduate, you are probably not fully aware of the role of fee paying agencies, and how best to use them, in fact you are probably not very aware of how the employment market works at all. Such a scheme as above sounds a pretty fair way of matching up with potential employers, and its a great shame that they are so frequently done so badly, still I expect somebody is making good money from it.

Hmmm. It depends, is this a message outside a company, was the external agency a recruitment firm? Unless the firm failed completely and the contract has been terminated, it's time for the lawyers.

Blimey! Imagine that?! An EU funded quango being utterly incompetent while doubtless spanking enormous amounts of our cash? Who'd have thunk it?

Mind you... I can understand the problem finding suitable candidates. With the whole of Europe finally realising the mythical goal of full employment.

If its any consolation Mark, I'm sure they discussed your problem in detail over a series of long lunches in premier eateries, that have nice wine lists

The 'external agency' was NOT a recruitment firm. It was in conjunction with and part funded by Community Partnership Solutions - which is an EU funded Regional development Scheme.

And give us some credit, we are perfectly entitled to not use them since they've done precisely nothing. No fees were exchanged and no exclusive contract was signed that meant all applications needed to go through this scheme. By applying directly it simply means that the lucky candidate will have ALL of their salary paid by us instead of part of it being paid for a time through this scheme.

Our relationship with this scheme is at an end and if it had continued and worked we would have been better off as the scheme proposes to pay part of the new position's salary for 14 weeks.

Believe me, no one loses out more that we do.
