Open this thread about vacuum cleaners, and recommend me a good one.

I need something for a smallish terraced house with a mix of flooring (stone or wood in rooms) and carpet in the halls. It would be used daily.

Primary Requirements:

1. It has to be robust
2. It has to have strong suction
3. It has to be compact

I await your advice. Then you can go to bed.

Gtech Air Ram are pretty good if you like easy to use stuff.

Not massively powerful, so not the best if you live like a slob and only vac once every 4 months 🙂

But great for a quick vac once a week or whatever.

didn't the EU impose regulations meaning you can't get powerful vacuums anymore?

Are you a forum UKIP plant? Or are you serious?

I remember similar threads to this before and people commenting on EU regulations that would limit energy use of vacuums and kill off powerful ones. I just can't be arsed googling it.

Henry is too hard to haul up two flights of stairs and pull around the house. That, and the attachment end is wonky.

Just bought a Bosch cordless and its great. 60 min run time and in my mind a damn site better than any overprice Dyson will ever be.
£170 inc tools.
Although Henry is still waiting to get his job back. If only the little runt would follow me round and not get stuck on everything.

Miele cat and dog without a doubt. Bought one ten years ago and it still sucks like a prostitute on piece work.
The only down side is it takes bags but so what!

Or what actually happens is you'll get a more efficient vacuum cleaner with the same sook for less power use.

You'll perhaps note that you cannot (readily) buy 100w incandescent lightbubs, however a modern 11w one will provide the same levels of light for circa 1/10 of the power usage.. We haven't started sitting about in the dark since incandescent bulbs being scrapped

Dyson V6 Absolute

I recently purchased one. Tested it on the landing - which is carpeted, immediately after running Henry over the area. I was amazed how much crap it got up after Henry
