Presumably someone's suggested a recording of Satie's Vexations already?
Probably Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space by Spiritualized.
Only album I truly love that is varied enough to not send me bonkers after a few straight listens I reckon.
Beaster
God I adore that album, but it’s one of the shortest of all times which has to count against it in this context.
Or ... with headphone on and as loud as you ears can stand.
If the thread was "If you had to choose one mix off YouTube.. " yeah? Which it ain't. So it's The Best of Abba for you.
On further thought, I might go for something by the Penguin Café Orchestra actually.
This one would do:
Would be a toss up between too very different albums
The The-Soul mining or The Jam- All mod cons
Depends on what work I'm doing. Thinking requires no (or few) lyrics, so 26 mixes for cash by Aphex Twin is about two hours long and the right sort of tempo.
Getting stuff done that doesn't need thinking about? DJ Yoda's how to cut and paste, the '80s edition. Or All Day by Girl Talk. Or Froot by Marina and the Diamonds.
Think it would have to be something like Underworld dubnobasswithmyheadman
Black Sabbath - Live Evil
Einaudi - Islands
Tool - 10,000 days
Bush - Sixteen Stone
or some dirty acid techno mix by Chris Liberator or the like.
Shaving already tried Hania Rani’s Home on repeat for about 6-8 times in the past I know I could listen to that one all day.
Arvo Pärt’s Kanon Pokajanen is one I have listened to hundreds and hundreds of times over the years without ever getting old.
Could alternate with some Johann Johannsson or Max Richter some days.
And Godspeed/Silver Mount Zion (Luciferian Towers springs to mind)...
In A silent way is definitely a good shout though.
Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream
or
Husker Du Zen Arcade
rennaissance - The Mix collection Vol 1 (the 1995 version)
Any of valarie June's album... so underrated
think i'd go with el camino the black keys
Eclectic mix of tastes.
Mine would be:
My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade
Or
Green Day - American Idiot
Didn't see it in the thread...
Low life, new order.
Depends whether colleagues would also be subject to 7.5 hours of said album.
If yes: Slayer - Reign in Blood.
If no: Slayer - Reign in Blood.
Somebody who has control over their music for the day should try it, listen to the same album for a solid 8 hours, see if you still like it by the end of the day!
I quite often listen to the same song on repeat for hours at a time, mainly when I want to block out some external noise and just concentrate.
Bought this when i was 14, I'm 62 now and still listening to it
Megabear by ME REX seems designed for this brief - 52 short songs designed to work seamlessly in any random order. If you're expecting ambient avant-garde jazz, well, it's your lucky day!
(because it isn't ambient avant-garde jazz)
Tricky as could easily tire of a good album if on repeat.
Some thoughts though:
Steve Reich - Pulses (music for 18 musicians)
Prefab Sprout - Swoon
Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark
Probably Blast Tyrant by Clutch...
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen.
Now 7 … I appreciate it will have been mentioned a number of times previously and I am just adding to its number 1 position and total dominance on this topic / thread.
'Chemicrazy' by That Petrol Emotion..... Or '101 Damnations' by Carter.
Beethoven's 9th
Beggars' Banquet
Cream live at the Fillmore E
any of those
Daft Punk: Discovery
Beta Band - 3EP's.
Neu! - 1st album.
Hawkwind - Space Ritual.
John Tavener - The Protecting Veil.

God I adore that album, but it’s one of the shortest of all times which has to count against it in this context.
But that’s the glorious point. It’s only 31 minutes so I get to listen to it more times than any of these weirdos and their long albums!
8 hours? That’s 16 plays of Tilted sequeing straight into Judas Cradle then JC Auto. That’s a GREAT day of music 😎
So it’s The Best of Abba for you.
Nah, has to be More ABBA Gold, it’s got the better songs on it! Not sure I could listen to it on repeat for nine hours, though…
I could possibly listen to Penguin Cafe Orchestra, or maybe Tangerine Dream’s ‘Ricochet’ - I couldn’t list to the same album with lyrics on repeat, I’d get bored with it after a while.
There are certain songs that I will repeat a couple of times if they turn up on shuffle, but not an entire album.
There’s some collections of works for string orchestra I could probably repeat, I might give it a try, but favoured albums with vocals? Familiarity may well breed, if not contempt, then serious boredom and a desire to not hear it again for several years!
Chill out = The beloved, happiness or the Stone roses = the stone roses
I think you've got to go for something eclectic, or something chilled.
I'd go for any of the following:
Portishead - Dummy
65daysofstatic - No Man's sky soundtrack
Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack
Anything by Clint Mansell
PJ Harvey - Songs from the city, songs from the sea.
I'm working through some of these suggestions, Siamese Dream is a great shout, and then reminded me of Kerbdog - on the turn.
I'd not listened to that Isley Brothers album before, that's the best new find so far
Tricky as could easily tire of a good album if on repeat
Yeah, good shout 😀 ... one of Tricky's later albums (Angels with Dirty Faces maybe) I could cope with that too. Hear different things every time
Portishead – Dummy
Had a neighbour back when that came out who would actually play it on repeat! I'm sure it was the only album she owned. Drove me nuts, hearing it through the wall over and over, so I def wouldn't choose that.
I think I'd be better off with something I hadn't heard much, get familiar with it. Rather than an old fave that I'd tire of.
Entroducing - DJ Shadow
If its for work, and very much depending on what I was having to do at the time, then I reckon for me it would either have to be The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, or slightly more up to date anything at all by Agnes Obel. Then again, I could listen to Ryuichi Sakamoto play piano for hours and days. Notable shout out for whoever mentioned Tubular Bells too (please note I did not say 'Tubular Bells 2' 😉 )
Temple of I and I-Thievery Corporation but any of theirs will do. Listen to all their albums as they come up on my phone one after another when pottering in the garden etc and never get bored. So many genres, styles and different vocalists to keep it fresh.
This thread got me thinking of the scene in the film Spun where he gaffer tapes a girl to his bed in his apartment ,presses the cd player start then disappears to score. The cd player sticks and keeps on repeating the same bit over and over for a day or so...
