I’m going to Asia at the end of March for work and have tagged on some spare time. The question is what do I do? I’m happy to fly on somewhere for a few hours. I was thinking of snowboarding in Japan but it’s late in their season, or possible Phuket for snorkelling/diving/sunshine. Any suggestions of places to go within a few hours flight of HK??
I'd head to Thailand. Pretty cheap, easy to find accommodation and get around. Friendly people and good food. Maybe Chang mai and some biking and a bit of culture or somewhere with some beach. Ko phi phi is nice. I quite like Krabi too. It's a hub for getting to other places like railay or into the bush. We did a fantastic kayak through the mangroves not far from there.
Japan is 5+ hours from HKG, not a skier but maybe too late, if you've not been I would recommend just going anyway and spending some time traveling around.
Cebu in the Philippines is meant to be good for diving, short cheap flight from Honkers, Bali is a bit further but not that bad flight time wise.
If you want to get out and pedal you can do that in HK as its still within riding season here, otherwise Chiang Mai is good between now and early April, 2.5 hours flight.
Of course you also have the rest of Thailand, Air Asia should be able to get you there cheaply.
Great. Thanks for the tips. Just what I was after. Keep them coming.
had a superb time in halong bay and hoi an 20 years ago. incredible all round. In fact all the north was great
probably changed remarkably now though.
Still love to go back
Palawan. Vietnam. Kyoto, Japan.
End of March is around Sakura season in Japan isn't it? Could see Mount Fuji surrounded by a bright sea of pink!
I really liked Taipei. Cheapish, fun, great food, lots of English, craft brewing. I think they might also have MTBing? Don't know what the weather would be like.
I would go to Shenzhen to check out the electronics markets then on to Xiamen which has great food and people.
I’m quite odd though 🙂
