Where would you go? We're going to a wedding in Glasgow mid February and since we're driving up there thought that afterwards we could drive a bit further and spend a couple of nights in a B&B or hotel somewhere in more remote Scotland.

No riding, but somewhere we can go for a long(ish) walk and enjoy the countryside for a couple of days.

Never really spent much time in Scotland before so don't know where to look - any ideas?

Thanks.

Mid Feb can be very variable weather so with only a couple of days it's probably best not to head too far north. I'd be tempted maybe by the Oban area of perhaps one of the islands like Arran or Mull. If you were in Oban and the weather was ok then you could take a drive further north, maybe to Ardnamurchan.

Arran is a great call.

How much time are you planning to spend in Glasgow itself? It's a fantastic city, I worked there for about 10 months a couple of years ago. The Burrell collection is astounding.

From Glasgow, a good few choices.

Pitlochry is more open than some of Scotland in February. Good hills, nice sheltered walks along rivers and lochs if the weather is poor. Head towards Rannoch for some properly wild...

Closer to home, but a bit it is winter on west coast, look at ferry to Dunoon and come back via Inveraray. Massive hills, great sea lochs, fabulous walks and just proper wee villages feel.

Great suggestions, I'll have a look at ferry prices - are they ever likely to be cancelled? I wouldn't want to book accommodation over on an island if bad weather might prevent us from getting there.

Ferries do get cancelled occasionally in Scotland but it's not that common and even less so on the Inner Hebrides routes mentioned. I don't think I've ever had to change a trip because of a ferry cancellation.

If you're going to Glasgow, arran for sure. 40 minutes drive down to get the ferry, and more walking than you can handle. If you end up going there, email in profile for walks, accommodation and food recommendations.

Only an hour on the ferry too.

A82 past Loch Lomond, over Rannoch Moor, through Glen Coe, then down the coast to a hotel/B&B in Oban. About a 3hr drive. Back to Glasgow via Inverary. About 2hr30m

Or after 1 night in Oban area head south and take the short ferry on to Cloanaig - Lochranza ferry on to Arran. Spend 2nd night on Arran.

Trossachs? Callander is a good base for touring about a few places. There is decent bike rental place and loads of different options to ride if you're interested. I've stayed at Auchenlaich Farmhouse before and it was pretty decent.

Oban is dull. Don't go to oban. The only reason for going to oban is to get the ferry to mull.

Go to Arran.

Great hills, good forest walks, and some nice coastal walks. Distillery and lots of nice wee coffee shops.
