I have the man flu and had a bit of an odd dream last night, it was basically Star Wars IV A New Hope, but set in 2015
Luke, who comes from primitive desert lands, is radicalised by a cave dwelling bearded man into following an ancient religion.
All the while being oppressed by a far greater and more technologically advanced empire which mercilessly and anonymously burnt his family to death. Whom did so under the intent of eliminating a terrorist threat.
He then swears to fight the empire no mater what the cost or distance.
Then I woke up and realised which side of the battle I'd have been born into.
I didn't feel any better, if anything I felt a bit worse.
Does this mean that my childhood love of Star Wars has raised me to be a terrorist sympathiser?
Is the fault of the USA and ultimately the Buddhist Methodist George Lucas?!?
Can i cut and paste and share to fb?
That's gon go viral
Nope, means you should stay off the mushrooms!

I don't remember there being a Jedi John getting all beheady in the film.
I've heard that viewpoint from lots of people and places. I'm sure there was a fairly famous US comedian who said much the same thing.
If you google "star wars rebel alliance terrorists" you get a bunch of articles discussing the question.
Were the Jedi's strong on homophobia, forcing their antiquated religion on others and against women's rights, I'm starting to warm to the Empire now?
I would say that he main difference between the Rebel Alliance and the terrorists is that the Rebel Alliance attacks military, rather than civilian, targets. However I agree in many other ways the British, French, Americans and Russians do resemble the Imperial forces (quite literally when you consider that the British did, until relativity recently, have an empire, Russia certainly wants hers back and America's projection of 'soft' power has been likened to a new kind of empire building)
There is an old saying, one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.
This rings true of many terrorist organisations but I don't think Isis could be described as freedom fighters unless it's the freedom to rape, enslave and sell women to the highest bidder. The freedom to murder anyone who does not share their twisted ideology in the most brutal way you could think of while filming it to use in promotional videos.
And the freedom to throw gay people off tall buildings.
I find it funny that if I was to ridicule someone's sexuality on this forum or to make a comment objectifying women I would be jumped on by the people who would compare Isis to the rebel alliance.

Ahem...
That's not star wars [s]a new hope[/s]
And I don't remember a Jedi John getting all beheady in ritual executions if you want to be picky.

Not sure.
Are you a terrorist sympathiser ?
Thats where I would start if I was trying to solve this conundrum.
One of the most radically boring things about the mediocre world-building of Star Wars is the straightforward assertion in the opening blurb that the Empire is "Evil". Once this has been asserted, it is obvious that the rebels are basically OK.
If the modern USA was endlessly introduced as "the Evil USA" in massive writing or Morgan Freeman's voice whenever it was mentioned, we'd probably be far more sympathetic to desert-based throat-slitting berks with curly beards driving around in pick-up trucks stoning women and banning disco.
I see that the ISIS French Connection has links to Brum, surely if we carpet bombed the Midlands the rebuilding effort would create loads of new jobs, which in turn would bolster the economy and may even pay for that fancy rail link and make a nice New North London Suburb?

Sounds sensible, when can we start?
It looks like someone already has
