If dogs had hands...

What would they achieve with them?

I've just given our Harold a lump of Oak, into which I cut some slots and then spread a bit of doggy peanut butter into.

He's loving it. Happy in his insulated disco bed. Helps pass the time for him on an otherwise relatively uneventful Friday in my workshop.

But looking at him, I can't help thinking he'd be able to manipulate the block better with hands. He'd get the right angle and lick that peanut butter right out of there quick snap. Feel kind of sorry for him, despite his obvious enjoyment.

But what if he did have hands? What else would your average dog do you think? 🤔

Well, my two dogs lick their balls and other bits*. If they had hands too, I dread to think what they might get up to at all the wrong moments...
(*For clarity - their own, not each others. That would be gross)

I always felt my hound would have made a magnificent classical piano player if she had been blessed fingers rather than furry paws

Pretty simple.
Harold could have done it himself, had he got hands of course.

Really? What's her favourite composer?
Bach?

If dogs had hands humans would be redundant. they would get together with our cat overlords and suddenly BOOM - humans become bottom of the pile begging for scraps

If dogs had hands they'd be baboons. Similarly, if they had flippers they'd be seals.

How long you gonna bake that dog for and at what temperature?

Used to use short cuts of bone; fill with PB and gravy mix, in the freezer for a bit  to give it some solidity,

Humans have hands and we have to go to work and do other boring stuff.

Dogs have paws and get to mess around all day and have humans look after them.

From this, I'm guessing dogs are probably quite happy to have paws and would not like it any other way.

If you were cuter and more adorable you could mess around all day and have someone look after you.

Mum & dad had a collie who could unlock round door handles with her paws, open cupboard doors and unscrew jam jar lids.

If my dog had hands she'd have loaded the car up with a bike and be sat in it waiting for us to go for a ride.

If dogs had hands, they would be able to open rubbish bins in order to easily rummage through them.

My neighbours dog would definitely climb trees. He always seems so frustrated when the kids climb the tree in the garden.

I suppose hands, whilst useful for opening fridges and climbing trees, would make running problematic.
I suppose its not been decided whether they're going to have two hands/two feet or all hands, or hands in addition to the current set up.

They’d play Poker.

And snooker.

And they would probably paint pictures of themselves doing those things too

Deserved more credit

Myself and LittleMissMC have thoroughly enjoyed this wonderfully odd thread

They could finally do their own trousers up and answer that age defining question of "how would dogs wear trousers?".

He's a Spinone, they always look 'baked' even at room temperature.

He’s a Spinone

We get that a lot. He's actually a 'Bordoodle' , which is made out of a Border Collie and a Standard Poodle.

They would throw their own balls and sticks and would therefore no longer need humans.
