It wont last long it'll 'petrify' however theres not that much on them to spread that much surely?

Pull the boards up though - just incase you have a slow leak.

It could be a rat. We’ve had an infestation in our composter that I’ve treated with a kilo of poison over the last few weeks. Also we get, or rather got, scurrying sounds in our wall cavities at sunrise.

Mouse definitely not. We've had a few mice die in the loft and they just decompose with very little fluid loss. I'm no expert but it seems mos tof the liquid just evaporates and the body dries out. A rat could be a different story as it's a lot larger, I still think it would be unusual for it to leech through a ceiling but it's possible of course.

You would smell it first, I would of thought.

Couldn't say about plasterboard but a mouse definitely has enough to show through a lath & plaster ceiling. The smell is pretty quick yo go and painting the affected area with stain blocker before you repaint. Ive only experienced this when I forgot to check the traps for a while. With poison they are supposed to get very thirsty and head for the open before they die.

Go easy taking that board out,there may be more than one.
