Hi, I hadn't used ebay for years but lobbed a Frog 55 on there earlier today. Posted up as 7 day auction and immediately I've been asked if I can do a buy it now price.

Am I allowed to do this if I have listed as an auction and if so do I ask the buyer to make an offer or do I have to change the listing and put a price up on the advert?

Thanks

The only reason anyone will offer a buy it now is so they can pay less than the final auction price. Just let it run.

You can't change it to fixed price but i think you can add BIN if no one has bid on it yet (or possibly even if they have. I've just spent nearly a full day listing crap high quality cycle components and now becoming marginally more prficient.

You need to click on amend listing somewhere top left i think.

I have found I get this kind of question when I have listed something really in demand. I'd tell them you plan to let the auction run as there has been lots of interest and happy bidding.

Ok thanks, also hadn't realised that people can make offers - I don't have a BIN option but there does seem to be a button 'Make an Offer'. Not sure that existed the last time I used ebay!?

2 offers have arrived in the last few minutes, a resonable i.e. not entirely insulting one and a complete chancer offering less than the starting price!!

I'll let it run!

It depends, the official 'Make an Offer' bit disappears from the listing as soon as someone bids; if it's someone DM'ing you to offer a BIN price and you then pull the listing, in practice eBay can ban you (certainly the last time I did this, I got a threatening message from eBay warming me not to do it again at risk of ban).

You can set 'Make an Offer' to ignore offers below a certain amount.

This might be the usual state of affairs but I'd say at the moment with folk stuck in there will be people keen to just get on and buy a bike happy to pay the price it would get to by the end of the listing but can't be arsed to wait especially when postage times are increased at the moment. See something ending in 7 days you know you won't have it in your hands for 2 weeks at the moment.

I rarely sell on auction as you get a lot of time wasters who don't pay when they win. You probably know what you want for it so just put it on for a BIN as a bit more than you want and using the Immediate Payment required means you don't have to waste time with non payers.

Does BIN cost more to the seller?

The Frog 55 that I'm selling is immaculate (couldn't get the daughter interested in it) and they seem to be £330 new. Trying to be fair on the pricing but recent threads on here suggest a bit of ebay madness going on at the moment. I had it up on the classifieds here for 225 posted but didn't get a sniff.

Not sure if I was expecting too much or the classifieds are a waste of time?
