I'm lucky enough to have a bit of spare time in the evenings and would like to use the time to start a new hobby which has the potential to break even or maybe even net me some money in the long run?

Want it to be creative, thought provoking etc...

Any thoughts?

Currently photography is on the short list...

I'd also quite like making things, custom frame building looked attractive but after doing research it's unlikely to break even vaguely even

You expect to make money or break even on photography as a hobby? Seems unlikely...

Silversmithing?
Shoe making?
If you want to make a little bit of money, then you've got to find something that the world and his wife isn't already trying, eg. photography.

[s]Paper round. Pizza delivery. Gigolo. Pig semen collector.[/s]
Give up the cash thing, do something you enjoy. That's what a hobby is.

I'm off to visit the pigs.

ebaying and selling on forums
If I'm not too busy I sell stuff on ebay/forums make lots of pocket money, look out for bargains in the classifieds.

I used to do a roaring trade on a couple of motorcycle;e forums selling bits from a couple of niche motorcycles, I would buy complete bikes scrap and strip them in the garage and sell bits off, stopped advertising on the forum as I just go so well known I got email requests every day..

play guitar, or build one. I started playing about 4 months ago, 2 months ago I started to get guitar parts from ebay after deciding to build one! It was really good fun learning how to wire it all up inside and learning how to solder, had never done anything like that before

toys19 - You'd get lynched around these parts for that or at the very least accused of stealing.

Try making wooden planters and bird tables.

You can make them from any old scraps of wood-as long as you finish them in a tidy fashion.
Let your imaginination run wild.
Then pop them on your lawn or take them to the boot sale.
Old dears love em!

Nice little bit of pocket money too!

So far plating things sounds interesting, as does making old dears bird tables....I'll do a bit of googling.

I think music is unfortunately out as I'm tone deaf - actually that might help with some genres 🙂

Whilst I imagine fluffing could be fun I think the missus will have serious words....

I thought the idea with hobbies is that they are fun, and work that you make money from it, the two are mutually exclusive ??

But yes, my suggestion is that you start and manage a women's roller derby team and league, I reckon people will pay good money to watch that.
