My wife and I have a week off at the end of this month. Don't have a huge budget. I've been to a lot of the UK but want a new experience!

We like the coast, walking (but not mountainieering!), cafes, houses with real fires (I'm gonna get some backlash over that.... 😉 ) and birdwatching (well I don't but my wife does).

Any ideas?

We are in Yorkshire so most places are accessible but I'd like to be within 4/5hrs drive...

Glamping in the middle of an old arboretum? Should be good for birds! Most of the places have fires or stoves. I stayed in a yurt there last Easter- beautiful grounds and great characterful accommodation, but perhaps a bit rustic for some tastes. I loved it though. You have to put all your stuff in a wheelbarrow and walk to where you stay - no cars allowed - so lovely and quiet, and very cosy with the fire going.

Edit: a week might be a bit much! Two or three nights of rustic might be enough 🙂

Also Cley-next-the-sea in North Norfolk. Great skies - walk along Blakeney Point is a must do, loads of holiday rentals, massive bird reserve. Other villages along there probably have a bit more going on, but there are plenty of walks from the door in Cley.

Longleat Center Parcs? 😆

~5 hours by train, ~£160 return (York-Warminster) using a "Two Together" railcard.

Plenty of walking on campus, around the Longleat estste, or around Shear Water for example.

There's a bird hide on campus, plus there are usually owl and falcon shows.

Cafes dotted around the campus.

Log fires in villas.

A sandy beach on one side of the lake. 😈

Prices are much more palatable in Feb, should easily be under £300 for a midweek villa stay.

To be honest, I'd rather stay at home. Hateful places. Sorry.

Defo Norfolk. We used to go to my Grans caravan in Hunstanton every summer and loved it. Plenty of nature reserves and the like near by. I live in Yorkshire and it always used to take 4hrs with a break half way.

Blakeney Point pics for further inspiration 🙂 the villages round Cley are really pretty and I should think that they would be a nicer place in February in some ways - in the summer it gets very busy. Having Holkham /Wells sands to yourselves would be ace in a wild and windswept sort of way.
