Thanks Molly. Feeling better already. I think I just lost 5g with that news. Only 13995 to go to being "stocky".
Good point Solo.
If I was exercising less I'd have more time to make myself an iDave style breakfast for example.
I probably wouldn't need to eat as many carbs as I do.
My diet is pretty low GI. I rarely eat crap (today's doughnut being the exception).
I've also never really had a problem with my weight, even when training far less. I've been bigger, but never tipped over 13 stone.
It sounds that the iDiet isn't completely appropriate for me with my current regime. People that I know who exercise similarly and have tried it seem to have sufferred.
I share your thought process though and it's one of the reasons I come on these threads.
Oh, and junk food has never really done it for me 😉
I share your thought process though and it's one of the reasons I come on these threads.
Same here.
The good thing about this Solo is that it's neither low fat nor low calorie 🙂 So mayo is surely in. Plus eggs do not make your own cholesterol levels go up apparently.
EDIT: Yeti - you are probably right. You seem to be compelled to try everythig going, but be aware some of it is not necessarily appropriate for you 🙂
You would probably struggle to get enough carbs to do all the stuff you want I think. Although I do wonder if you actually burn more calories than me now I am riding to work more regularly?
TSY.
Totaly agree. After reading your training schedule, eating as I do wouldn't be sufficient, I'm guessing.
At the moment my opportinuty to exercise is very restricted on a time and location basis, so sticking to the low gi and just three squares a day, suits me for now.
Molgrips.
As you have posted in upper case letters, its about the GI. But feel free to try Mayo and report back here.
🙂
Furthermore, I was under the impression that the liver produces LDLs and so its an indirect link between what you eat and what your cholestrerol levels may be. Not withstanding the gut's propensity to absorb LDLs out of the blood stream, etc, etc.
How have i also missed this thread at 13pages long?!
TSY's post ^ sums up my thinking. I've been struggling on low GI diet* and i exercise the same amount of hours/days per week as TSY *high 5s exercise addict buddy* and i'm also racing as well. I'm ditching it for a few days as i'm racing on sunday (eeeekkkk!). I've noticed pros and cons - pros being i feel better/consistent mood/energy, cons being i have no power/not enough energy to race or HIIT and my recovery is rubbish compared to usual. And there only is so many beans and lentils i can eat but i'm always hungry.
TSY knows my thoughts on him doing the idave diet *shakes head crossly* 😛
*not 100% idave though.
See I reckon I only intake 2000 to 3000 calories a day, and I find that difficult enough with traditionally accepted healthy foods.
Not sure how many I burn though. Maybe I should do a diet swap with a true iDieter and see how I get on. Just for a laugh like.
Haha... I was just about to say don't tell her ^^ though 😀
Dgoab.
iDave does advise alterations to his suggestion on low GI, if you are competing, etc.
Get yourself over to RST sport, have a look around there.
Can't hurt to look.
😉
I've been struggling on low GI diet
Are you having high GI carbs around your riding/racing? You should. If you feel run down have more until you don't feel crappy any more. It's what I did, and I still lost weight.
My experience has been positive. Started training 8-10 hours a week in december and started the idave thing end of January,
I'm now racing every thursday in crit races and training with lots of intervals and rides at the weekend.
I've had 1 low day so far and that was because I took very minimal carbs for the day (no veg the whole day) and went out and destroyed myself in a 2up 10 time trial.
other than that i take on simple carbs in the hour preceding the race and when training I have torq energy drink.. I haven't found any lack of energy for the training I'm doing.
(then again. i have built a fairly good base where i'm much better at burning fats for energy so this might have helped)
DirtyG... you need Jaffa Cakes.
I'll send you some.
Hey molgrips I've not been here much recently, have I missed your after pics?
I'm ditching it for a few days as i'm racing on sunday
Have you tried taking a proper taper week before a race so you're not so tired? A few days doesn't sound enough.cons being i have no power/not enough energy to race
EDIT: Just re-read your post. Maybe you meant a few days off the diet. Not off training.
I have not posted the after pics yet no 🙂
TrickyDisco.
Excellent stuff. Sounds like you've cracked it.
😀
I have not posted the after pics yet no
It will be too much information, and you will feel dirty and used afterwards.
😉
Solo i know...need to do it properly but in the meantime i'm reverting back to my old (pretty healthy) diet.
i need to email idave and deadlydarcy about ichosen one stuff anyway but i've been too busy [s]keeping TSY in check which is an extremely hard job*[/s] resting and force feeding myself lentils and beans. tbf, i have issues with being run down/low in iron as i don't eat meat anyway.
Mol...the high carbs around exercise is what i need to work on, and total calorie intake too. I had loads of pasta last night and i feel so much better this morning as a result.
Phil, yes i have been resting all week and usually have a good 3/5 days rest/taper before racing. Everyones different though and as a female as said i already have iron issues and other such stuff. Edit after your edit...yes i meant a few days off the diet and back to my old one. The resting for once, i have sorted 🙂
*but one i love* *accepts jaffas with a secret smile*
you will feel dirty and used afterwards
*is looking forward to it almost as much as having Darcy measure my fat content*
Mol...the high carbs around exercise is what i need to work on
I find it very easy. Finish ride, go to fridge, grab cold Coke - enjoy 🙂
Iron issues btw could be exacerbated by cutting out fruit. Fruit really helps iron absorption.
Well.. i'm not completely strict, although I don't touch bread or pasta anymore and don't miss it.
I can't stop the chocolate every now and again. I seem to have got to the point where i'm not losing anymore. I sit between 69-70kg (was 75 in dec)
just knocked up some gram flour pancakes. pretty good idea if you're struggling for ideas for packed lunches for work etc, they make ideal wraps.
got the gram flour from the wholefoods stall in the local indoor market which might be an idea for sourcing the stuff if you don't have an Indian grocers in the neighbourhood.
Disco.. we need more vital stats than that [s]ASL[/s] height, waist, chest?
5'9.. 33 er.. not sure on chest. I'm not a B cup I know that 😉
TrailMonkey.
Them flat breads are on my "to do" list.
When I get back home..... eventually.
*taps foot impatiently waiting for jaffas* can you hand deliver them please? i'll cook up a lovely high carb diet for you as payment 🙂
TrickyDisco.
Another iDave diet success story.
I hope you're happy with the results.
😀
Aw that's not fair. It's bad enough talking about them and now this.
Show some sensitivity, there are iDieters on this thread.
Surely Jaffas are a good pre or post ride food though Mol?
Better than coke I reckon!
Cheers Tricky, I'm an inch taller and inch or two thinner. I reckon I've got a kilo or so to go.
It's a long old drive to you DirtyG... be there around 11?
I actually never did it to lose weight (because i was never big anyway)
My main aim has been to get leaner and improve my cycling ability (power to weight and fat burning)
I was told by my coach (god that sounds fancy but he's the guy that has put together my training plans) that it was a combination of training and diet that has helped loads. I wouldn't have seen the improvements by training alone...
he tested me the 2nd time round and found my body prefers to use fat as a source of energy than carbs*(back in december he told my fat burning potential was terrible.. I remembering him saying at my base ponint 43% of my calories was comnig from fat.. it's now 84% )
* in the lower hear rate zones
Show some sensitivity, there are iDieters on this thread.

😳
I never liked them, pre iDave.
ah sorry
age: 33
waist is now 30 🙂
Sorry Mol....fwiw i've been almost sugar free for a few weak moments but the most i had was 5 jaffas but its not actually been that hard aside from a few weak moments and needing a sugar fix to get me home at the furthest point of my 100mile ride on sunday when i could've sold my bike and sat at the side of the road for the crows to eat 😥
TSY i hate ms, please refrain from using that again otherwise i shall change my rest/wicked definitions 😛 11...blimey thats ages? *would like the moon on a stick today* 😀
and needing a sugar fix to get me home
DG sounds to me like you really aren't taking enough carbs whilst riding.. this diet is not a panacea for use in all cases, imo....
Gonna give the gram flour wraps a whirl this w/end. Found it on Ocado - which means Waitrose might do it if you fancy turning middle-class for a bit 🙂
Oh btw - had bolognaise last night with what was labelled 'weissbohnen' here in Germany, which I swear were haricot beans. Very nice actually - taste went well with the bol and they were very smooth in texture so not bad at all.
I know Mol...i did say i had some/a lot of work to do to adjust! I would've had sold all my bikes on sunday with the way i felt. Trouble is i struggled with enough carbs during a ride on my old diet but got by ok as i always had enough on my usual diet.
*goes home to more pasta, jaffa cakes and iron tabs*
they were very smooth
Try freshly cooked cannellini beans then. Way nice.
this diet is not a panacea for use in all cases
Spot on !.
🙂
Hmmm... so I might be able to get lighter.
*Puts 2nd doughnut back*
Cannellini beans are my favourite! Nom.Try freshly cooked cannellini beans then. Way nice.
😡 Are you trying to make me get on a plane to have words with you? If so, two packets of jaffas would be required. 8)Hmmm... so I might be able to get lighter.
Hmmm... so I might be able to get lighter.*Puts 2nd doughnut back*
have u got a 6 pack? if not you can go lighter 🙂
* i haven't got a 6 pack
A quick lunchtime circuit training session today has left me unusually starving - my usual lunch disintegrated inside my body before it even reached my stomach so very unlike me I've eaten a huge flapjack this afternoon. It must have weighed nearly a kg and was so loaded with sugar it stuck to the wrapper. I've felt very thirsty and rather sick ever since and now I'm hungry again. I've go two satsumas left in my bag for a 45min xc ride home. Mmmm, think I'll be scouting the ground for morsels of food all the way.
Kev
In my bag for the ride home is two scoops of Torq.
I cooked some chickpeas this morning for a beef bean stew later, thing is I can't stop eating them as they are they seem rather moorish.
1fp.
That stew sounds gooood.
I'm at work til 7pm, then 3 hr plus, drive home. I won't feel like cooking then.
🙁
Getting there but not quite.. thing is I want to be at my lowest sustainable weight. 6 packs seem a little beyond this?
Chorizio Omelette for you tonight then Solo?
I'll let you know Solo 😉
Wondering if chickpeas with a bit of paprika or chilli powder be a good alternative to peanuts.
6 packs seem a little beyond this?
Afaik yes.
Molly?
TSY.
No mate, I never really got into that omelette thing.
Its been a long hard week and I'm ready to wobble off the wagon.
Worse still, I happen to know, that there is a cold can of Heiniken in the fridge, and I can't get the thought of how good thats going to taste, out of my head. Or perhaps a night cap in the form of a glass of red.
1fp.
Thats an excellent idea and you've reminded me about a guy in an office I once worked in who made..... Curry flavoured popcorn.
That was flipping luvly.
might be worth applying the same principal to chickpeas I reckon.
Mix up some dry spices and coat freshly cooked warm chickpeas in said curry or chilli spices. Then allow to cool and dry.
I bet they'd beat the heck out of crisps.
I wonder how that would work out with some of those flatbreads.
Ooh !, the combinations are limitless, its great.
*puts on wingman outfit*
Don't do it Solo! Not unless you've been cheating all day!
Have a nice glass of red tonight and then think about how much better those beers will be with a good curry tomorrow!
Fried Breakfast to look forward to an' all!
TSY.
Is this you ?
No need to suit up. Saturday is the designated day off, so the single can of beer in the fridge can wait till then.
Anyway, can't go mad tonight, I'm moving most of my worldly goods into storage tomorrow, so I'll be piloting a transit van in the AM. At speeds somewhat less than Mach 2 and definately not while inverted.
🙂
If you do get inverted you could join this thread 😉 But a safe journey would be preferable 🙂
my weight's not shifting 🙁
stuck at bloomin 68.5kg of [s]lady[/s] lardy boy
My shadow weighs that much 😯
your shadow weighs 8.5kg more than me then Dd 😉
Kev
I'm such a lard arse 🙁 Anybody know of a diet or lifestyle plan I could try? 🙂
TSY - were you querying my suggestion about 6-packs? Isn't the guideline that you need to be about 6-8% to see a six pack? Whereas iDiet will only work down to 10-12%...
Oh. Well I'm here, ask away.
I'm always here for you.
don't no one ask me nuffin now?
I think I was going to ask you when we're going to see the after pictures...
What's up iDave?
Nothing up, had a great trip to Geneva and everything is hunky dory
Just need to do some training for the bigger/better etc
Your own training... or them there athlete types?
Did you run today iDave?
(yeti, we, ahem, won't be mentioning the bodyfat %age measurement thingy again ok?)
Ok. What was the result by the way? Was it good?
Just did some running this evening, but not for a plane.
My own training, for me to be able to do that which cannot be spoken
The result was someone reporting it to those who cannot be mentioned. 🙂
I saw a pink Ferrari today
Ah, I thought you were over there for some kind of race. There was word from Jimmers today.
A pink Ferrari? 😯 Change of mind?
*checks offshore account*
Dammit, either tell us what bigger/better is or stop talking about it!
iDave, whilst you're in attendance, a question for you ...
fruit - can you eat too much of it?
The best way to find out what bigger/better is Molly, is to ignore that it's happening. The participants get tetchy if noone is asking. Tetchiness will lead to loose tongues.
fruit - can you eat too much of it?
in what context? lots of it will make you fat.
yeti, you might as well have just advertised it on news at ten
now we'll be swamped by requests
😕
Right so those are clues?
Ok.
I castle train(ing) singer gears of war stormtroopers brass band?
You want me to edit?
I took [s]5 mins[/s] bloody ages to find those!
