Why do the haters get so worked up about a diet that's free, seems to work eh Ton (congrats by the way fella) and has some logic to it

I've been following it off and on for a while and lose weight on it, I also KNOW it keeps my sugar levels regulated, and it has reduced my (already low) cholesterol levels (I'm diabetic and have just had these checked)

https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D6580668_7607415_613824

Link to PDF above to save you all chasing Dave

Also Got a mate who's a dentist, he strongly believes we(Northern Europeans) evolved to get our vit C via green veg, as our teeth struggle to cope with the acid in fruit

Soda bread on or off limits?

Is pearl barely on or off limits?

If not then any suggestions of a potato substitute for an Irish stew?

I recently lost a lot of body fat by cutting down on beer, chocholate and fatty/sugary foods and sugary drinks. I eat low GI foods in smaller quantities and more often. Still have bread, pasta and rice and I exercise daily.

I came accross this diet and although initially skeptical (my default mindset), the diet makes a lot of sense and from the results people are reporting, it works.

I have made a concious effort to eat more legumes and I now try to get my carbs from legumes for my evening meal. I enjoy bread, pasta, rice and fruit too much to fully commit though 😀

Any root veg, or butternut squash.

Soda bread is off, if you're talking Irish soda bread, you never made it then ?? , turnip, swede, parsnip, celeriac, carrots, daikon, kohlrabi, lotus root, loads of veg for an Irish stew.

No never made why? it's just the stuff you buy from supermarkets marketed as Irish Soda Bread.

Pearl Barley - anyone????????

IIRC the iDave diet cuts out grains.
Day off not withstanding.
I've certainly removed grians from my diet.
Well... cept for beer.

Quinoa: in
Lentils: in - a staple
Pearl barley: out

Don't try replicating traditional meals with substitutes imo. Just make different food that doesn't include the starchy stuff. You only want bread/potatoes/rice etc because it's habit. Ingrained, if you like (see what I did there?)

Yes, yes, very clever 🙂

Grips !, how you doing ?.

Have you been keeping pace with the other thread ?.
Last time I checked it was going quite well, even for STW.

Which other thread? There's another iDiet thread?

Top tip for all you newbies - poppadoms are in, being made of gram flour.

Doing ok but not so well with the diet.

Ok, so its 6 pages now, but you might spend your time reading lesser threads.
So, give it a go.

Diet, for weight control is one thing, as you know.
But you were experimenting with carbs around training sessions.
To the extent that you had improved, significantly, your time for running over a certain distance.
Have you now fine tuned the carb requirement thats right for you, to achieve the performance you're seeking ?.

iDave actually responded to me today and explained his carb strategy for an upcoming event he will participate in.
It was useful info, for me.

Last nights dinner,

Keema peas with cauliflower rice, chick pea curry and baked onion bhajis!

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/lowcarbsidedishes/r/caulirice.htm
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chickpeacurry_2213
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/461642/keema-with-peas
http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/16164/baked-onion-bhajis.aspx

My family loved it, especially the bhajis(I added more spice than the recipe.)

I'm over three months in on the idave thing and it is natural for me now, I wont go back to eating crap carbs except on cheat day. For success you need to think long term and get away from the traditional 'diet' mindset. It is not a bean diet, just eat your normal meals, but with low gi carb alternatives. Experiment and if you make something tasty post it on here so we can all try it.

molgrips, just read your contradicting post and have to disagree, my low gi cottage pie rocks, as does my chicken leek and bacon. I say go with the alternative traditional stuff and find new food to eat, best of both and all that. 🙂

I've never felt better to be honest and I eat so much more veg now. My main limiting factor is my imagination, so it is great to use other peoples. It was my first go on the cauli rice yesterday and I must say I'm impressed, there are just so many ways you can use it too!

At the begining my shopping bills went up, but now I'm a bit more clued up not only is the weekly main shop quicker, it is cheaper too. If I could be bothered soaking beans it would be cheaper still, but usually I don't bother.

I'm fancying some roasted chicken, chorizo, peppers, mushrooms, onions, butter nut squash drizzled in chilli oil and balsamic for dinner, damn this idiet! 😀

Last night I made a cauliflower and squash curry, I blanched the above while frying up onion, garlic, peppers, mushrooms with some Thai type spices. I added the softened veg, poured in a little coconut milk (I use the powdered Maggi stuff from the ethnic aisle in Tesco, and you don't need much) and we had that just with a pork chop.

Fantastic, filling meal.

Going well here as well now I have got the mrs buying the right stuff. cottag(ing) pie last night with a butter bean, cauli, carrot, broccoli, chick pea and parsnip mash on top was superior to any cottage pie I have ever had. It did cause a triple flusher this morning though! 3 weeks in and 12lb off. I have a brewery trip tomorrow night just a couple of hundred yards from idave palace.... and wendyball saturday 😯 cheat maybe on the cards...

The bhajis are great, but I recommend upping the spices, also keep checking them so they don't burn.

I will give your curry a go soon bigjohn, one of the great things about all this is you learn to use and appreciate veg more. Also there is something really nice about knowing exactly what you are eating, no additives or hidden nasties. I've never been a fan of celery or squash in the past, but love them now!

well I'm new joinee to. Day 5 in and quite enjoying it. If the scales are to beleived I'm 7 lbs down this am. TBH I'm a little concerned it'll lead to crash and burn. I've not been cutting back on my main meals really, just all the snacks and stuff in between.

It also chimes with the I really must start cooking for myself and stop relying on all this prepacked processed shite...

Need to find me half a dozen of staple/banker recipes. Currently eating a lot of soup... Tried the bean or pea/tuna/salad thing a couple of times too.

Gonna try that chick pea curry tonight I think.

My shopping last night must have been the healthiest ever for me as it was all fresh veg, spices and beans...

The knowing theres no additivies is also a bonus... 😀

Today's food:

Brekkie - eggs and sausage
Lunch - more eggs and peas (not very creative that one)
3 tiny choccies
Pre-workout - coke
1 hour run
Post-workout - coke
Dinner - Huge plate of cauli, green beans and carrots with some lamb shoulder
Bedtime - toast (oops)

I'm really getting my veg in on this diet!

Molly - you're awful at following the rules.

I'm a convert though now. I feasted on delicious iDiet compliant meals Saturday and Sunday cooked by a pioneering iChef.

This morning I weigh 160lbs so have lost 4lbs in 2 days... what's not to like. Plus I still get to sit here eating porridge as I've swam this morning.

58kg on Saturday morning. Pretty pleased with how stable my weight has remained as I've hardly been taking any exercise for the last four months. I'm just starting to up the effort and distance now the calf /achilles injury is at last over, it's definitely feeling stonger each day.

There's this diet I've heard about that when followed to the letter is supposed to achieve good results!

What's your waist measurement? I never thought I'd get below 33", then I thought I'd never get below 32"... now I'm just over 30".

I've dropped a stone in the last year and didn't think it was possible.

How will you know from the picture?

Yes by devoting far more time to it than I have available. Bear in mind I am also a stone lighter than I was a year ago.

Can see where it looks like you're carrying excess muscle / fat?

Lifting weights has given me reasonbly 'good' arms. Sod all use for riding a bike though.

I'll do this appraisal for free this time.

Yes by devoting far more time to it than I have available.

iKnow a man that for a fee will provide you with more success than my regime does but at less than 8 hours a week?

What difference does that make? Surely you are aware that you can't lose fat from a particular area by exercising it...?

As for 8 hours a week - I wish. Currently scavenging around three, but haven't for a few weeks hence being at the upper end of the range.

Plus I reckon you might find that yoga has greater benefits than you'd first imagine.

Not sure you understand the issues involved here Yeti. The diet sheet didn't say 'you are guaranteed to get to 12% bf and the diet is guaranteed to fuel all your training whatever it might be, whatever your physiology' when I read it.

Yoga - yes, it looks great, no problems with that. It's just not on my list right now.

My personal opinion Mol is that you seem to overcomplicate things. The people that it has worked best for... Just Do It!

They don't question, don't adapt, don't decide they're different, they just get on with it.

From reading their posts they're quicker to ditch the chocolate, the fizzy drinks, the rubbish.

Some are fitter than either you or I. Some of them are exercising more than we do. Some of them are better racers than either of us.

I agree with TSY here. Have you ever just given it a try for a couple of weeks, as is, just to see what occurs? If I remember right, you have never followed it properly.

As for finding the time....the losing weight bit is all about the diet, which takes no time at all.

Gah.

Molly, yep I know 😉 I've actually been losing fitness all round for the last four months because of my injury. It's not been a happy time for me the last few months but at least now I can start to get out again. Physio said a third of percived effort for one month, then two thirds for the second month then work back to full fitness in the third month. So at least, if I can behave myself and keep it low for while I should be back up to where I was by the summertime, which I have to do, I cannot afford to over cook anything.

Yeti, I think that's Bikram yoga? nope, not tried it. I'm starting Satria again tonight for the first time since August! All I've been able to do recently is stuff at home which I've remembered.

Yeti, you seem to forget that I started just doing it and it didn't work very well. So I started modifying it and got better results.

Sometimes things ARE complicated. Like human physiology for instance. Yes, some people have followed to the letter and had no ill effects, but we aren't all the same, are we?

Why on earth would you assume that one size would fit all? I still stick to the principles, I just have a little more simple carbs, that's all.

I agree with TSY here. Have you ever just given it a try for a couple of weeks, as is, just to see what occurs? If I remember right, you have never followed it properly.

See above. Followed it to the letter for two weeks, and ended up barely being able to turn the pedals on my bike, and that's not an exaggeration.

As for finding the time....the losing weight bit is all about the diet, which takes no time at all

Yes, and that's why I am frickin doing it! When I talked about having time I was talking about the training. I'm not just trying to get skinny, I'm trying to get fast on the bike. So there's a balancing act.
