But I may be a compulsive fibber.
Is there a good weightweenie database online that has an up to date MTB parts focus rather than roadie? I also have a scale-shot fetish...any linkies would be greatly appreciated. Ta!
Isn’t this a path down which lies spending a fortune on light, fragile and extortionate Tune components?
Ha! its a well trodden path, I just would like to know what the weights are of brakes I have knocking around with out having to dig them out/remove them and weigh tem myself or trawling lots of random sites an scaleshot images.
What is heavier DB8's, Zees, SLX, Formula R0,T1's or TRP slates....first world problems.
Last entry on WW for disc brakes was 2012?
Even in its prime weightweenies was full of mistakes and misleading comparisons, it was never really much use. It's all about the photos of parts on digi scales for me now. Though some weirdos falsify even those.
For current stuff R2 bike's website shows scale shots of many components they sell. Obvs it's not as tempting to actually buy the shiny featherweight bling from them any more.
Haven’t we all moved on from lightness at all costs to stuff that’s a bit more modest, but can survive actually being ridden hence WWs aren’t as prevalent anymore, Dangerholm accepted.
Been there, bought the tshirt and the expensive carbon, broke it.
I think it's a mistake to get too hung up on weight, especially on MTB as you do sacrifice strength and durability after a certain point.
My hard tail is about 12kg unlaiden which I think is about as light as you'd want to go really. Most of that is down to the carbon rims and magnesium alloy forks. I think my frame is 1.8kg, standard Cube aluminium frame.
You can feel the difference compared to a cheaper 14/15kg hard tail, but shedding more than 3 kilos is no mean feat unless you spend a lot of money or cut a lot of corners.
Especially when I weigh 7x or 8x the weight of the bike 😀
Weight weeinies trying to shed ten grams here and fifteen grams there... kinda pointless.
I like a light bike, partly because I need all the help I can get, but I agree chasing grams is pointless, especially if you winch and plummet steep n fast stuff primarily, plus a beefy beast feels nice and stable at speed on rough ground, I am quite a 'light' rider I find local trails and exploring much more fun on a lightweight ride, no heavy tyres and 35mm rims required if you are somewhat careful with line choice etc, well designed components retain strength, performance and still achieve low weights, if I was a true WW the dropper would have to go 😆
Still, if I have a choice of components I like weight is definately a consideration for me.
@thepurist thanks! bookmarked.
Edit: DB8 700g 😮 well I know where they are going.. 😆
*sorts tires by weight...*
