Breaking News: RNLI spokesman claims new scheme to stop total arseholes giving them money is "complete success"
I won’t be popping a few quid in the plastic boat any more!
Setting up a direct debit? Well done.
Also as a result of that disgraceful racist campaign by the mail subscriptions are up massively.
Tell you what il pop another quid in fr you. That should cover you for the next 5 years donations youd normally give ?
Its a charity that saves lives.
its worth donating to.
Unless you think that peoples lives from other countries arnt worth it?
They use some of their donations to fund overseas projects to prevent people drowning and at the same time provide a world class free rescue service around the coast of the UK.
Worth a few quid if you ask me.
#readpastthecontentiousheadline
I hear they rescue anybody in difficulty too - even foreigners!
GOBSMACKED.
Good job not everybody is an areshole...

"anti-drowning" measures.
Love the quotation marks. Classy.
Teaching people to swim? It's not very capitalist is it? If they keep doing that they'll be out of a job.
Why cant they focus on fetching working class people back when their inflatable flamingo gets blow out to sea, or corralling middle class once a year surfers on Cornish beaches?
Guess what - they cover Ireland too...
Royal National Lifeboat Institution
When was the last time they saved the Queen, eh, eh? Makes you think.
The Times aren't even trying that hard.
The Daily Mail have done a much better story complete with a picture of brown children in funny swimsuits.
I guess Times readers are even easier to trigger

Id like to think my nationality gave a shit about people beyond its own crumbling doorstep.
Royal National Lifeboat Institution
So you used to donate to the RNLI without understanding what they actually do, now you're going to stop doing so because of reasons you haven't understood either
Life must be incredibly confusing for you.
I suspect they're only teaching those kids to swim so they can then cross the ocean to reach the UK and steal all the jobs.
It's treason!
/sarcasm...
Don't give to Oxfam either. Apparently they are helping people outside Oxford now and you don't even need to be a victim of a famine. GOBSMACKED
It will blow your mind when you hear what those traitors at the
British Standards Institute have been up to.
It’s treason!
But if they can swim they wont need saving, so in the long run its a cost saving measure for the rnli.

Tanzania is a nation too.
Yeah, I for one am disgusted that they spend 2% of their money sharing good practice worldwide to reduce deaths in other countries. I mean it's a scientific fact that foreign parents and children are less affected when their children and siblings drown as the melanin in their skin stops them being real humans, right?
Oh hold on, no I'm not as I'm not an idiotic psychopath.
Today I shall feed the Troll a single;
'!'
Royal National Lifeboat Institution
they are no longer going to rescue past the 12 mile limit from now on. thanks derek. you'll have to call IR.
Help me remember; is the OP being a bit pisstakey or is he one of the frothing-mouthed keyboard warriors from the Brexit thread?
just a bit hard of thinking I guess
frothing-mouthed keyboard warriors
I believe they prefer "swivel-eyed looneys". Although I prefer "intellectual midgets"
I actually don't give anything to Oxfam any more, because of the shit that their people get up to whilst abroad.Don’t give to Oxfam either.
Superb guys down on the beach every day in trebarwith this year. Even though my kids are good swimmers I feel so much more confident with them having that extra protection. I will continue to support!
also they will only save if you have two forms of Identification as proof of Britishness.
I’d almost begun to believe that derek_starship was a reformed character…
I assume he's just trolling.
No one, on here, can be that racist...
I actually don’t give anything to Oxfam any more, because of the shit that their people get up to whilst abroad.
Thing is, the undoubtedly appalling shit that some of their people got/get up to is far outweighed by the very, very good work that the vast majority of their people get up to. Stopping giving is a bit of a baby/bathwater situation* (unless you've switched the giving to another charity, in which case, fair enough)
*luckily the RNLI will step in here
[quote=RNLI]The RNLI’s priority is to provide the very best search and rescue service in the UK and Ireland, but we are also proud to use our expertise, knowledge and influence to help others save lives across the world, particularly in countries where drowning rates are high. Our founder, Sir William Hillary, had the vision that we ‘should extend our views [of drowning prevention] from our own immediate coasts, to the most remote quarters of the globe, and to every neighbouring state’. This remains relevant today.

When was the last time they saved the Queen, eh, eh? Makes you think.
It's much harder to make me think than you assume.
I very much doubt derek realised he was being racist and sure thats not his intent.
Trolling by the OP, surely. Their strap line is SAVING LIVES AT SEA, no mention of whether they are brown ones.
I’ll be buying something next time I’m in an RNLI shop, actually I would have done it anyway. My daughter has a fine collection of over priced RNLI key rings, note pads and pencil sharpeners, but that’s not the point.
I saw the new Hastings boat last month and what a fabulous piece of kit it is. Didn’t see a pole on it for pushing "the wrong people" back in.
Troll or racist?
or both?
exactly, I'm sure most employees are good guys but there are PLENTY of other deserving charities out there that don't have a whiff about them.unless you’ve switched the giving to another charity, in which case, fair enough

"I actually don’t give anything to Oxfam any more, because of the shit..."
Because of people like this Oxfam have had to drastically cut back on their overseas aid work. Those projects have not been taken up by other aid agencies. The result is that millions of people who might otherwise have access to clean drinking water don't, and thousands will die from water born diseases like cholera.
^^^^
Open admission of trolling, which is very much against the rules.
I suggest closing the thread and maybe a holiday for Derek. It would need to be inland, obviously, wouldn't want rescuing by those pesky RNLI folk.
When was the last time they saved the Queen, eh, eh? Makes you think.
They don't need to save the Queen.... "God saves our gracious Queen"
terrible action has terrible outcome. No real surprise there!Because of people like this Oxfam have had to drastically cut back on their overseas aid work. Those projects have not been taken up by other aid agencies. The result is that millions of people who might otherwise have access to clean drinking water don’t, and thousands will die from water born diseases like cholera.
Meanwhile, other needy people in other areas have probably benefited from a re-allocation of peoples' donations.
Preferred the other thread to be honest....
terrible action has terrible outcome. No real surprise there!
Agree, but I think you're assigning the outcome to the wrong action
Interesting... the report post button disappears, I assume, after a post has been reported...
Light blue touch paper? Other colours are available you know.
I very much doubt derek realised he was being racist and sure thats not his intent.
I didn't think anyone on here was that stupid either!
I very much doubt derek realised he was being racist and sure that's not his intent.
Maybe we should let Derek answer that one for himself, or has the ban hammer already been shown a tad early?
Like all racists He's as entitled to his opinion, as almost everyone else is to disagree with him...
I suppose I can understand the objection (even if I don't share it) you though you were supporting an organisation to carry out a very specific, some might say limited, function, but it turns out they have a broader scope...
I suppose it all comes down to how you see British national identity; are we a "Great nation" that tries to do the right thing, lead by example and share our learning and knowledge for the betterment of humanity or an nation of insular, selfish bastards?.... Oh yeah what was I thinking?
There was a thread from yesterday https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/rnli/
This one should be stopped before D_S back pedals into the sea
I agree, other duplicate threads get closed pretty quickly so why hasn't this one? Do the mods actually want people to argue??....
There has been quite a few internal issues within the RNLI and it has lost a lot of it's traditional volunteers.
I spoke with a retired Director of Lifeboats a few weeks back and he has little faith in the new style of "middle management", which he feels has been taken over by lifeguards, rather than Professional Mariners, i.e. ex-MN and ex-RN officers. He was also rather scathing on the recent TV series.
A fisherman I know, left as he felt he was being pushed out as the RNLI would rather have the publicity of stories of a dentist/shopkeeper/postman rescuing a fisherman than the rather non story of a fisherman rescuing a fisherman, despite losing a lot of hard won experience and knowledge.
It may be the Changing World we live in but the RNLI has changed a lot recently and a lot say not for the better.
Funnily enough, neither ever mentioned this overseas funding thing.
This one should be stopped before D_S back pedals into the sea
Don't worry, if that happens The RNLI will probably save him...

As anyone who has watched Saving Lives At Sea knows, the RNLI have operated on the Irish coast forever too. Don't see anyone screaming at that: I guess that's the right sort of foreign?
I spoke with a retired Director of Lifeboats a few weeks back and he has little faith in the new style of “middle management”,....
Sounds very disgruntled.
I apologise for a tedious troll. Didn't realise it was a banning offence though.
I will donate £5 to the RNLI as penance*.
*seriously.

No its not, Its a tanning salon in Salford.

then Greenpeace will try and shove him back in the sea again.

Because as astonishing as it may be, we do actually have day jobs. I've only just seen this.
Closing as a duplicate (and an intentional troll, don't do it again or you will receive some time off, you've been here long enough to have had time to read the site T&Cs.)
